Infant Death Ruled Homicide
Richmond Police detectives have arrested a woman in connection to the discovery of a deceased infant in a dumpster last night.
The Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death of the infant--a female--a homicide.
At approximately 8 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to an alley in the 1800 block of Monument Avenue and found the baby unresponsive. The infant was later pronounced dead.
After further investigation, detectives identified the child’s mother as ShaVaughn Robinson, 27, of the 1600 block of Wentbridge Road, and have charged her with felony concealment of a body.
Detectives are currently speaking with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office to determine additional charges. Because this investigation is still active, detectives are not releasing further information at this time.
Detectives would like to thank everyone who spoke with officers and provided information that allowed them to identify and make the arrest.
They are not looking for anyone else in connection with this crime.

Suspect Sought in Weekend Shooting

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to locate the suspect who is wanted in connection to a homicide Sunday.
Detectives are seeking Ronald L. Mines, 26, of the 3200 block of Third Avenue. His picture is attached.
At approximately 12:07 p.m. on May 19, officers responded to the 1600 block of Fendall Avenue for the report of a person shot. Officer found Larry A. Austin, 28, of the 2000 block of Fairfield Avenue, dead of apparent gunshot wounds.

Fatal Stabbing Victim Identification, Arrest
The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim from Saturday's fatal stabbing on East 29th Street as Ricky Jones, 54, of the 3000 block of Montrose Avenue.
At approximately 8:41 p.m., officers were called to the 00 block of East 29th Street for the report of a stabbing.
The suspect, Paul M. Manning, 58, of the 1400 block of Clarkson Court, was arrested at the scene and has been charged with murder. His photo is to the right.

Special Olympics Torch Lighting, Kickoff

The Special Olympics torch, one of the most recognizable icons in the world of sport, will once again come to flickering life in Richmond tomorrow.
The Richmond Police Department is proud to join Special Olympics Virginia as they officially light the "Flame of Hope" and kick off the Law Enforcement Torch Run at noon at the SunTrust Center, 919 E. Main St.
The ceremony commences the countdown to the Summer Games, being held at the University of Richmond, June 7 and 8. More than 100 officers from across Virginia will meet in support of the event with Attorney General Ken Cuccinelli and State Police Superintendent W. Stephen Flaherty, the 2013 State Chairman for the Torch Run.
Beginning June 1, officers across Virginia will carry the Flame on the 1,900-mile Law Enforcement Torch Run. The Richmond Police Department will participate in the Torch Run’s Capitol Leg, a 7-mile stretch west from the State Capitol to the Tuckahoe Volunteer Rescue Squad in Henrico on June 7.
Richmond Police also will participate in the Torch Run’s Final Leg, starting 7:30 p.m. Friday at the Rescue Squad and ending at the University of Richmond Robins Center for the start of the Special Olympics games, which the Torch Run benefits.
This year law enforcement agencies in Virginia have raised more than one million dollars to fund the important missions of Special Olympics.

Richmond Police Memorial Honors Sacrifices of Fallen

BACKGROUND: Each year law enforcement agencies across the country honor those who gave their lives in the line of duty during National Police Week.
This year’s observance is May 12 through 18.
Chief Ray J. Tarasovic and the Richmond Police Department will pay homage to Richmond’s fallen officers and also remember those who served the Department and passed away in 2012 and to date in 2013.
Recent reviews of historical records have uncovered information about a sworn officer, Special Officer Robert D. Busch, who was killed in the line of duty in 1870. He will be honored for the first time this year.
Police Week proclamations from Gov. Bob McDonnell and Mayor Dwight C. Jones will be presented.
Governor Bob McDonnell is scheduled to attend and read his proclamation.
Following the service, participants will be invited to tour the new Richmond Police Museum, a collection of RPD history and artifacts located at the Training Academy.
Members of the public and the media are invited to attend.

Person Sought in Erich Road Homicide
The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to identify a man who may have information about a November homicide.
Detectives are hoping to identify the man below who was known to frequent the store BEFORE the murder of Mohammad Taib occurred on Nov. 24, 2012. Taib, 59, was shot to death inside his store, the 756 Food Mart, at 11 Erich Road.
Anyone who recognizes the man in the sketch below is asked to contact detectives.
The man below is described as a black male, approximately 35 to 45 years old with hazel eyes.
