The Richmond Police Department has released additional photos of the suspect from yesterday's robbery of the SunTrust Bank. The photos show more clearly the face of the suspect. The photos are attached.

Detectives hope the public can help identify the suspect.

Yesterday at approximately 3:36 p.m., a man walked into the bank at 3022 W. Broad St., passed the teller a note demanding money, but did not display a handgun. He left on foot in an unknown direction.

The suspect is approximately six feet tall and weighs 180 pounds. He has a goatee. He is seen wearing a white shirt, grey sweatpants and a black hat with a gold sticker.

Richmond Police Earns CALEA Reaccreditation

The Richmond Police Department received its first Advanced Law Enforcement program reaccreditation from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) on Saturday, Nov. 16.

“CALEA accreditation is a measuring stick that professional law enforcement agencies use to compare themselves to one another and to the expectations that the community has of its police departments and I was proud to appear before the Commission’s panel on Saturday, answer their questions and highlight this great City and the outstanding work that the men and women of the Richmond Police Department perform day in and day out,” Police Chief Ray Tarasovic said.

“CALEA is the gold standard for law enforcement accreditation and we have pledged to maintain CALEA’s professional standards as part of our commitment to public safety in Richmond. Accreditation insures the department has consistent policies, formalizes management practices and provides for accountability through checks and balances at all levels of the agency.”

Chief Tarasovic accepted the award at the international organization’s fall conference in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, with the department’s CALEA Manager Daryl Jones, Police Planning Director Brian Cummings, Sgt. Kim Mooney and fellow CALEA team members Shanique Scott and Officers Paul Tuttle and Deadra Swilley.

The Richmond Police Department is one of 26 law enforcement agencies in Virginia to have the prestigious CALEA Law Enforcement Accreditation status and one of only 15 municipal law enforcement agencies to be so recognized.  Along with the Virginia Beach Police Department, Richmond Police is one of the two largest Virginia municipal law enforcement agencies to be CALEA accredited.  The agency was first accredited in 2010.  Reaccreditation occurs every three years.

The Police Department had to demonstrate compliance with close to 500 observable standards to earn reaccreditation. A team of CALEA assessors from around the country visited Richmond for a four-day period just this past July. They conducted interviews with Department personnel, attended a display of the agency’s specialized equipment and vehicles.  They inspected the Department’s facilities and vehicles during their visit.  Both prior to and during the visit, the assessors reviewed Department files to verify standards of compliance.  In addition, the assessors met with the Department’s law enforcement and community partners and attended a public information and comment session at the Richmond Police Academy.

CALEA was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations - the International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, National Sheriff’s Association, and Police Executives Research Forum.  The Commission was established to develop a set of law enforcement standards, and to establish and administer an accreditation process through which law enforcement agencies could demonstrate voluntarily that they meet professionally recognized criteria for excellence in management and service delivery.

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to identify and find the man pictured in the attached surveillance photos who robbed the SunTrust Bank this afternoon.

At approximately 3:36 p.m., a man walked into the bank at 3022 W. Broad St., passed the teller a note demanding money, but did not display a handgun. He left on foot in an unknown direction.

Jackson Ward Neighborhood Walk Through

Jackson Ward Walk Through

Chief Ray J. Tarasovic and the Department’s Command Staff will join Fourth Precinct Sector 413 Lt. Don Davenport for a walk through Jackson Ward this evening.

Officers will meet at 5 p.m. today in Abner Clay Park, at the intersection of Brook Road and West Clay Street, and spread out through the neighborhood from there.

They will talk with residents about recent trends in crime in the neighborhood, paying particular attention to reducing the opportunities for property crimes. With the holiday season upon us, officers will be asking residents to reduce the occasions when packages are left on porches for extended periods of time. This greatly reduces the chances for theft of these items.

Command Staff members and officers will also talk safety tips and ask what residents would like to see more of from Richmond Police.

Persons of Interest Sought in Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify two persons of interest in the robbery of a delivery driver earlier this month.

At approximately 10 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3, a pizza delivery driver was robbed at gunpoint by two unknown males in the 2900 block of 4^th Avenue.

Detectives are now looking to speak with two persons of interest in the case and they can be seen in the attached photos.

The first individual is wearing a black jacket, a white or grey hoodie, black pants, and what appear to be white and black flip-flops.  The second is wearing a green jacket, hoodie and his face is partially covered.

Marathon Street Closures/Parking Restrictions

The Richmond Police Department asks motorists to be mindful of runners, parking restrictions and street closings through the city starting Friday night because of the Anthem Richmond Marathon on Saturday.

Illegally parked vehicles on Broad Street will be towed starting at midnight Friday to make sure the course is clear.

Drivers need to be patient and on the lookout for runners along the routes.

Please be aware of signs restricting parking and detours throughout the city starting at 4 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 p.m. Saturday.

The following streets will be closed or modified during the designated times:

• East Grace Street between 3^rd and 6^th Street will be changed to a two-way traffic pattern from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
• 6^th Street between Canal and Cary streets will be changed to a two-way traffic pattern from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
• East Canal Street between 5^th and 6^th streets will be changed to a two –way traffic pattern from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Saturday. 
• Tredegar Street will be closed between Dominion Resources and 7^th Street from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday.
• Tredegar Street will be closed between 5^th and 7^th streets from 6 p.m. Friday through 5 p.m. Saturday. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday.
• 5^th Street will be closed between Grace and Tredegar streets from 4 a.m. to 4 p.m. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday.
• Cary Street will be closed between 3^rd and 12^th streets from 4 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
• Broad Street from Lombardy to Belvidere will be closed all day Saturday.
• Broad Street (both eastbound and westbound) between 4^th Street and the Boulevard will be closed from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Westbound traffic will be detoured north onto 11th Street and west on Leigh Street. No parking will be allowed from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. Eastbound traffic will be detoured north on Sheppard Street, east on Marshall Street, north on the Boulevard, east on Leigh Street, south on 10th Street, east on Marshall Street, south on 12^th  Street back to Broad Street.
• Grace Street from Allen Ave. to 4^th Street will be closed from 4 a.m. to 3 p.m. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. to 5 p.m.

• The Huguenot Bridge will be closed to all traffic from 4 a.m. to 11 a.m.  Northbound traffic on Huguenot Road will be detoured north from Huguenot Road onto Chippenham Parkway to the Willey Bridge.
• Riverside Dr. will be closed from the Huguenot Bridge to Scottview Drive from 6 a.m. to Noon.
• Forest Hill Ave. westbound from Roanoke St. to Hathaway Rd. will be closed from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.
• Semmes Ave. Westbound from Cowardin Avenue to Forest Hill Avenue will be closed from 4 a.m. to 1 p.m. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday 
• Belvidere Street northbound at Grace Street will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The recommended detour will be east on Byrd Street to the Downtown Expressway eastbound to I-95 northbound.
• Main Street, from Belvidere to Boulevard will be closed from 4 a. m. to 1 p.m. No parking will be allowed from 3 a.m. through 5 p.m. Saturday 
• Belvidere Street southbound between Broad and Grace Streets will be closed from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.  The recommended detour for southbound Belvidere Street will be onto I-95 southbound just north of Leigh Street
• The southbound exit ramp from the Powhite Parkway to Forest Hill Avenue and the northbound entrance ramp from westbound Forest Hill Avenue onto the Powhite Parkway will be closed to traffic from 8 a.m. until approximately 11 a.m.
• There will also be numerous and frequent lane closures along the Marathon, Half Marathon & 8K routes, including closures on:  Broad Street, North Boulevard, Monument Avenue, Grove Avenue, Maple Avenue, Cary Street Road, River Road, Scottview Drive, Forest Hill Avenue, Semmes Avenue, the Lee Bridge, Belvidere Street, West Main Street, Hermitage Road, Fauquier Avenue, Brook Road.  

Man Arrested for Robberies & Attempted Robbery

Richmond Police officers have arrested the man responsible for robbing and trying to rob several businesses in the area earlier this week.

Robert C. Hylton, 42, of Chesterfield, has been charged with the Nov. 2 attempted robbery of the Baskin-Robins at 6940 Forest Hill Avenue and the robbery of the Martin’s at 3000 Stony Point Road that same evening.

Chesterfield Police have also charged Hylton with the Nov. 2 robbery of Family Dollar at 8501 Midlothian Turnpike and last night’s robbery of the Donut Connection at 7021 Hull Street Road.

Richmond Police officers located and arrested Hylton in the 2000 block of Maury Street last night.  

Arrest Made in Yorktown Avenue Homicide

Arrest Made in Yorktown Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in yesterday's homicide.

Shortly after officers arrived on scene of the shooting in the 2400 block of Yorktown Avenue, detectives questioned a person of interest in the case and made an arrest.

Detectives arrested Darryl A. Greaves, 32, of the 2400 block of Yorktown Avenue and charged him with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and shooting into an occupied dwelling. After consultation with the Commonwealth Attorney's Office, additional indictments will be sought against Greaves. Greaves' photo is attached.

Detectives are not actively looking for additional suspects at this time.

AutoZone Attempted Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify two men in the attached surveillance who attempted to rob a Midlothian Turnpike business at gunpoint this morning.

At approximately 8:35 a.m. today, two men ran into the AutoZone at 5801 Midlothian Turnpike and tried to rob the business at gunpoint. They left without receiving anything.

The suspects are described as two black males, both with thin builds who were last seen wearing masks. One male is approximately 5’8” and the other is approximately 5’11.” They were last seen getting into a smoke gray, four-door SUV, possibly a Jeep.

Man Sought in Forest Hill Avenue Attempted Robbery/Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in surveillance video who is wanted in connection to a robbery and attempted robbery of two businesses on Forest Hill Avenue this weekend.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. Saturday, a man walked into the Baskin-Robbins store at 6940 Forest Hill Ave. and demanded money from the clerk. He left without receiving anything.

Approximately 20 minutes later, the same man walked into the Martin’s at 3000 Stony Point Road and demanded money from a clerk. He left with an undisclosed amount of money.

He did not display a weapon in either crime. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” to 5’8” and weighing between 180 and 190 pounds.

Detectives also believe this is the same man who robbed the Family Dollar at 8501 Midlothian Turnpike in Chesterfield County at about 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Yorktown Avenue Homicide

Last night at approximately 10:10 p.m., the Richmond Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 2400 block of Yorktown Avenue. Officers arrived and found a male in the street suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to VCU Medical Center where he died.

The victim is identified as Jeremy J. Meredith, 21, of the 00 block of Labrook Drive.

Detectives are in the early stages of this homicide investigation.
