Update in Broad Rock Boulevard Death Investigation

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the death investigation yesterday as a juvenile male, 17, of Richmond.

Yesterday at approximately 4:22 a.m., officers were called to the 2800 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found a male down and unresponsive on the curb of the roadway. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crimes detectives responded and learned the victim was dropped off at the location by an unknown person or persons in a vehicle. That vehicle left the area prior to the arrival of officers. At approximately the same time, officers were called to the 5000 block of Snead Road for the report of random gunfire. Detectives have determined this was the location of the shooting. The investigation continues.

WHERE:           RPD Training Academy, 1202 W. Graham Road

 

The Richmond Police Department graduates 15 individuals from the latest Hispanic Academy tonight. These 15 graduates took part in a seven-week Academy, which covered topics such as robbery prevention, managing police encounters, first aid tips, mental health awareness, and more. They benefitted from visits from RPD specialized units and public safety partners. The class was taught by the RPD Hispanic Liaison, Jasmine Perez, with support of the city of Richmond’s Office of Immigrant and Refugee Engagement.

Broad Rock Boulevard Death Investigation

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Major Crimes detectives responded and received information that the victim may have been dropped off at the location by a vehicle before the vehicle left the scene. At approximately the same time, officers were called to the 5000 block of Snead Road for the report of random gunfire. Detectives are investigating if these locations are connected in this death investigation.

Broad Rock Boulevard was closed in both directions to accommodate the investigation. All lanes are now open to traffic.

Persons of Interest Sought in Vandalism - Shockoe Bottom neighborhood

Persons of Interest Sought in Vandalism

First Precinct detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying these individuals in the attached photo who are suspects in a vandalism that occurred in the Shockoe Bottom area.

Shortly after midnight, November 17, these individuals were captured on a nearby surveillance camera spray painting graffiti on a building located in the area of 23 South 13^th Street. One male was last seen wearing a dark colored baseball hat, dark colored coat, dark pants, dark shoes and glasses. The second male was last seen wearing a yellow coat, dark colored baseball hat, dark pants and has blonde hair.

Suspect Indicted in Fairfield Way Homicide Investigation

Following an indictment by a grand jury on Wednesday, the suspect in the homicide in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center last week has now been charged for that incident.

Naim Crews, Jr., 28, of Richmond, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 12:04 p.m. on Monday, November 4, a Richmond Police Department detective was in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center, located in the 1700 block of Fairfield Way, walking towards the building. The detective heard a gunshot nearby and investigated. In the parking lot near the roadway the detective found an adult male, Timothy Ward, 34, of Henrico County, down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Crews Jr. was arrested by RPD officers later that same day in the Fairmount neighborhood for a shooting on Mechanicsville Turnpike that occurred the previous afternoon. Following investigation, Crews Jr. was identified as a person of interest in the homicide of Ward. Crews Jr. was charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the incident on Mechanicsville Turnpike and has been in custody since his arrest on November 4.

Victim Identified, Person of Interest Detained in Fairfield Way Homicide Investigation, Charged for Separate Shooting

 

Richmond Police detectives have in custody an individual who is a person of interest in the homicide that occurred in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center on Monday.

 

Naim Crews, Jr., 28, of Richmond, was detained by RPD officers on Monday afternoon in the Fairmount neighborhood after receiving information of his possible involvement in a shooting that occurred on Sunday. Officers and detectives, coordinating with Major Crimes detectives investigating the homicide in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center, developed him as a person of interest in that shooting, as well.

 

On Sunday at approximately 11:38 a.m., an employee of a convenience store in the 1400 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike reported an adult male entered the store, demanded money and started to shoot. The employee, an adult male, returned fire and was struck and injured. The suspect was not injured and left the area. Officers arrived and the victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening. Following investigation, Crews Jr. has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting on Mechanicsville Turnpike. Today at approximately 12:04 p.m., a Richmond Police Department detective was in the parking lot of the Richmond Justice Center, located in the 1700 block of Fairfield Way, walking towards the building. The detective heard a gunshot nearby and investigated. In the parking lot near the roadway the detective found an adult male, down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

A suspect was not located at the scene; however, officers and detectives took information from several persons who were nearby at the time of the shooting which can assist in developing a suspect. Detectives ask anyone who saw suspicious activity near the scene or along Fairfield Way to contact investigators.

The eastbound lanes of Fairfield Way were closed to accommodate the investigation and have re-opened.

Today at approximately 5:54 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of Nelson Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, inside of a residence down on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Detectives have determined that this shooting is domestic-related, and one person has been taken into custody. Detectives are not looking for anyone else. This investigation is on-going.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
