Arrest Made in South Carolina in East Grace Street Shooting Investigation

Arrest Made in South Carolina in East Grace Street Shooting Investigation

The suspect who fled from the scene in the aggravated assault incident on East Grace Street on Thursday surrendered to South Carolina law enforcement officers after a brief pursuit there this weekend.

Officers in Horry County, S.C. observed the suspect vehicle that was the subject of the Richmond Police Department alert and attempted to make a traffic stop. The driver refused to stop and eventually fled on foot before surrendering to police.

In consultation with the Richmond Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, RPD detectives have charged Dorian Evans, 34, of Chesterfield County, with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo, courtesy of Horry County, S.C. police, is attached.

In the early morning hours of Tuesday, October 27, officers were called to the 100 block of East Grace Street for the report of broken windows of a business. Officers arrived and investigated, locating Evans nearby. He was arrested and charged with felony destruction of property.

The business owner reported having an ongoing dispute with Evans, who had threatened the owner days earlier. A protective order by the owner had been filed.

On Thursday at approximately 1:43 p.m., Richmond Police officers responded to the 100 block of East Grace Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult female across the street from the shop, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Officers and detectives investigated and determined Evans had entered the shop and brandished a firearm at the business owner, an adult female. The owner fired at Evans, causing him to flee the scene. The shot injured the victim across the street.

As mentioned in the earlier advisory regarding this incident, this shooting had no connection to the nearby political office on the block, the Republican Party of Virginia headquarters.

No charges have been placed against the store owner at this time. The investigation continues.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Detective J. Wilson at (804) 646-0712 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. Tips can also be submitted via the P3 Tips smartphone app. All Crime Stoppers reporting methods are strictly anonymous.
