Driver Identified in Fatal Single Vehicle Crash on Powhite Parkway

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team is investigating a fatal single vehicle crash that occurred on the Powhite Parkway.

On Saturday at approximately 1:46 a.m., officers were called to the northbound lanes of the Powhite Parkway near the Douglasdale Road exit for the single vehicle crash. Officers arrived and found the damaged vehicle which had collided with the guiderail on the right side of the roadway. The male driver, Stephen Lomax, 41, of Henrico, was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult female passenger was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

The Office of the Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Members of the RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and are investigating.

The northbound lanes of the roadway were closed for several hours to accommodate the investigation.

Victim Identified in West Bacon Street Homicide Investigation

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the West Bacon Street homicide investigation as Edguin Zelaya-Mendez, 18, of Alexandria, VA.

On Saturday, at approximately 3:24 a.m., officers were responding to a loud noise complaint at an apartment complex located at West Bacon and Hickory streets when they heard gunfire in the parking lot. As many people who had been gathered there fled the area, officers entered the parking lot and located an adult male, Zelaya-Mendez, down and unresponsive next to a parked vehicle. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
