Three Arrested in North 18th Street Double Homicide Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives have made three arrests in the North 18th Street double homicide investigation.

 

Carlos Johnson, Jr., 26, of Henrico County was arrested on Thursday without incident. He has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (2x), and malicious wounding. His booking photo is below.

 

Shaquan Morris, 22, of Henrico County was arrested yesterday without incident. He has been charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is below.

 

Drevon Jackson-Brown, 25, of Henrico County surrendered to detectives today without incident. He has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (2x), and malicious wounding. His booking photo is not yet available.

 

On Saturday, February 21 at approximately 2:47 a.m., a Richmond Police Department officer on patrol in Shockoe Bottom observed a large crowd engaged in apparent confrontations in the 00-block of North 18^th Street. The officer responded and found an adult female, Genesis Jones, 23, of Petersburg, down and unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Additional officers arrived and found an adult male, Dominic Jackson, 42, of Henrico County, down and unresponsive. He had also suffered apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

In addition to Genesis Jones and Dominic Jackson, seven other adults were shot and transported to local hospitals.  All seven gunshot victims are expected to recover from their injuries. Jackson-Brown and Johnson, Jr., who have now been charged, are two of those who were shot. 

 

“This remains a very complex case with more investigative work to accomplish – but it is appropriate at this stage to recognize the significant progress made by members of the Richmond Police Department in cooperation with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney. I would like to thank our federal partners, state agencies, and fellow local departments – Henrico Police Department and Petersburg Police Department – for their significant and ongoing contributions,” said RPD Chief Rick Edwards.

 

Additional charges against those involved in this incident are possible. Vehicle of Interest Sought in North Belvidere Street

Hit and Run Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives are seeking information about the driver and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that occurred yesterday near Belvidere and Leigh streets.

At approximately 4:06 p.m., March 5, officers were called to the intersection of Belvidere and Leigh streets for a report of a hit-and-run.

When officers arrived, they located an adult female in a wheelchair who had been struck by a vehicle. The driver left the scene prior to officers arriving, traveling northbound toward the I-64/I-95 interchange.

The woman was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Preliminary information indicates the woman was struck while in the crosswalk crossing Belvidere Street, though investigators have not yet determined which party had the red signal.

Detectives are attempting to identify a dark-colored Ford SUV believed to be involved in the incident. A photo of the vehicle is attached.

Arrest Made in Coalter Street Homicide Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest in the April 2024 homicide that occurred on Coalter Street.

 

After serving time in Georgia on unrelated charges, Daivion White, 20, of Richmond, was charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in relation to the homicide of Robert Joseph, 25, of Richmond. His booking photo is attached.

 

At approximately 11:31 a.m., April 17, 2024, officers were called to the 1300 block of Coalter Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Joseph, down on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Driver Charged for Fatal Collision on West Leigh Street

Driver Charged for Fatal Collision on West Leigh Street

Following an indictment by a grand jury this week, the driver of the dump truck that struck and killed a pedestrian on West Leigh Street in January surrendered without incident at the Richmond Justice Center today.

Thomas Clements, 55, of Henrico County, has been charged with failure to stop for a pedestrian that resulted in death. His booking photo is attached.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has been investigating this incident since it occurred on Tuesday, January 6. At approximately 1:43 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of West Leigh and North Harrison streets for the report of a pedestrian struck by a dump truck. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Donald Jaciuk, 64, of Richmond, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He was transported to a local hospital where later that day he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators determined Jaciuk was crossing West Leigh Street northbound in the crosswalk with a walk signal when the driver of a dump truck, Clements, turned left from North Harrison Street onto West Leigh Street eastbound, striking him. Clements remained at the scene.
