Victim Identified, Arrest Made in Greshamwood Place Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in last night’s homicide as Deavon L. Jacobs, 25, of the 300 block of Melmark Court.
James D. Henshaw, 39, of the 12000 block of Sliding Rd., Church Road, Va., was arrested earlier today in connection to last night’s homicide. A booking photo will be released as it becomes available.

Last night at approximately 10:48 p.m., police responded to the Motel 6 at 100 Greshamwood Place for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Commercial Robbery Suspect Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to locate a person wanted for a commercial robbery last August and who may be active once again.

George W. Thomas, 23, of the 3400 block of Garland Ave. is being sought for robbing the Stop & Go on Mechanicsville Turnpike shortly before 3:00 a.m., Monday, August 1, 2016. He pointed a handgun at the clerk and told him to empty the cash register. Thomas fled with cash in a dark-colored four-door sedan.

Thomas is described as a black male, 23 years of age, 5’ 11” tall, and weighing 145 pounds. He is known to frequent the Essex Village area in Henrico County or the Meadowbridge Road area in Richmond. A recent photo is attached.

Detectives believe Thomas may be involved with additional, more recent, commercial robberies. They ask anyone with any information about Thomas’ whereabouts to call RPD Detective Eric Livengood at (804) 646-4636 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Winter Storm Driving Tips

The Richmond Police Department wants everyone to stay safe during this winter storm. Please review these Driving Dos and Don’ts:

DO allow extra time to arrive at your destination.

DO drive slowly and deliberately. Avoid aggressive braking, acceleration and steering.

DO fully clean the snow off your vehicle before driving.

DO have an emergency kit in your vehicle should you become disabled or broken down. Warm clothes should be included.

DO avoid operating bicycles and mopeds on the roadways.

DO pay special attention to bridges and overpasses as they will freeze before roadways.

DO park in your driveway prior to the storm. This allows for ease of snow removal.

DO keep your charged cell phone with you in case of an emergency.

DO NOT follow too closely to other vehicles. Give yourself plenty of distance to brake and stop.

DO NOT travel unless necessary.

DO NOT travel at excessive speeds. Four wheel drive does not mean four wheel stop.

DO NOT sit in the car idling unless the tailpipe is clear of obstructions.

DO NOT abandon your vehicle in the roadway. Your vehicle will be towed.

DO NOT leave your vehicle running and unattended, even just to warm it up could result in the theft of your vehicle.

Suspect Sought in Armed Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photo who robbed a man on Armfield Road this week.

At approximately 10:35 p.m. on Monday, January 2, a male reported he was unloading packages from his car, located in the 1500 block of Armfield Road, when two males approached him, brandished a firearm and robbed him of his wallet. The suspects fled on foot. There were no injuries.

An image of one of the suspects was captured on a security camera at a nearby convenience store when the suspect used the victim’s credit card.

Search Continues for Two Missing Men

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate two individuals who’ve each been missing for approximately a year.

“The families of these individuals have been anxiously waiting for information on the whereabouts of their loved ones for the past year,” said Major Crimes Detective William Thompson. “We are working with our law enforcement partners across the state and the region to bring these men home. We’re hoping someone may have seen them and can help us put their families’ minds at ease.”

Dean, 52, was last seen on December 18, 2015 leaving Richmond Community Hospital. Known to be a drifter, he frequents Rudd’s Trailer Park in the 2900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway and areas in Richmond’s east end.

He is described as a white male, 5’6” tall, with blue eyes and brown hair, weighing approximately 175 pounds. He has scars on his right cheek and a tattoo of the name “Brenda” on his right arm.

Lander S. Freeman

Freeman, 73, was last seen on June 6, 2016 in the 1500 block of Silver Avenue after leaving his home to walk to Kings Market. His walking stick was found on the porch of a friend’s home in the 1400 block of Silver Avenue.

He is described as a black male, 6’1” tall, with a medium complexion, weighing approximately 200 pounds. He has an injury to one eye. He was last seen wearing a coat with fur around the hood and “Obama” written on the back, green pants and a black fedora-type hat.

Community Walk in Oak Grove Neighborhood

WHERE:                    Keswick Avenue & Mason Street

BACKGROUND:     Chief Alfred Durham will lead his Command Staff and other Richmond Police Department officers on a walk at 5:30 p.m. today through the Oak Grove neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

said that the area has seen a significant increase in robberies with the number of incidents rising from two in 2015 to seven last year. Similarly, the biggest increase in property crimes has been burglary with six commercial burglaries and nine residential burglaries in 2016, up from zero and five respectively.


“The Oak Grove neighborhood experienced a rise in violent crime last year, including homicides and aggravated assaults, and thefts from motor vehicles and motor vehicle theft continue to be an issue,” Lt. Brereton said. “We urge residents to secure their property, remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity or persons to police.”


This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Arrest Made in Providence Park Homicide

A Richmond teenager is facing charges of murder in connection with a homicide that occurred in November in the Providence Park neighborhood.

Ishmael D. Brown, 17, of Richmond, turned himself in to Richmond Police detectives on Friday, Dec. 30. He has been charged with murder. A booking photo is not available at this time.  The photo from the Nov. 28 news release is attached.
At approximately 5:39 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 25, officers who were in the area for an unrelated incident heard a loud crash at the 600 block of Milton Street. Upon arrival, they observed an overturned white Buick sedan. The victim, George M. Carrington III, 17, of Chimborazo Boulevard, was found outside of the vehicle and had been shot. He was pronounced dead on the scene.
