Richmond
Police detectives have charged Anwar Phillips in connection with two homicides
that occurred last month in the city’s south side. He has been in custody since
November 20.
Anwar
R. Phillips, 30, of the 2200 block of Keswick Avenue, was charged
Monday night with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder related to
the November 16 homicide of Frank McCray and the November 10 homicide of
Rolando Salas. No booking photo is available at this time.
Detectives
believe Phillips was known to at least one victim in each incident and that the
cases are related. Neither shooting is believed to be random.
Phillips,
who was wanted for the November 16 shootings at Blue Ridge Apartments, was
taken into custody last month in Henrico County and transported to a local
hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in the hospital in the
custody of the Richmond Sheriff’s Office.
At
approximately 9:25 p.m. on November 16, officers responded to the 300 block of
Red Ash Road for a report of shots fired. They quickly located three
individuals suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Frank
A. McCray, 49, of the 5700 block of Kendall Road, was found
unresponsive in the rear yard of the building. He was pronounced dead at the
scene. The two other victims – an adult male and a juvenile girl under age 10 –
were found inside the residence.
The
second charge stems from a homicide that occurred about a week prior on Talbert
Drive.
Around
9:53 p.m. on November 10, officers responded to the 1400 block of Talbert Drive
for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival they found the body of Rolando D.
Salas, 30, of the 6900 block of Beulah Oaks Lane in Chesterfield County,
lying on the side of the roadway. He had suffered multiple gunshot wounds.
Johnathan P. Moseley, 26, of the 4600 block of Keithwood Drive in Petersburg, has also been arrested in connection with the November 10 homicide. He is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.
