Chief Edwards to Provide Briefing on End-of-Year Crime Stats

 

WHAT:               End-of-year Public Safety Briefing to the Community

 

WHEN:               10 a.m., TOMORROW, Thursday, January 29, 2026 

 

WHERE:            The briefing location is at RPD Headquarters, 200 W. Grace St.

 

Chief of Police Rick Edwards will address crime stats impacting the public and highlight strategies that reduced major crimes by 12% in 2025. Chief Edwards will give an update on arrests from several New Year’s Eve random gunfire investigations and introduce, with the Office of Gun Violence Prevention Director Greg Hopkins, a new Spring Forward initiative to reduce youth violence during the upcoming Spring Break period.

 

BACKGROUND:    

This crime briefing will inform the community of crime trends impacting public safety, outline department strategies and outreach efforts, and announce again the upcoming opportunities for members of the public to engage in community events to participate in a joint effort to reduce crime.
