Wythemar Street Death Investigation

At approximately 12:06 p.m., officers were called to the 100 block of Wythemar Street for the report of a person stabbed. Officers arrived and found an adult male down and injured with apparent stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Major Crimes detectives are investigating.

Male Identified in Walmsley Boulevard Death Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the male who was transported to a local hospital by personal vehicle following a shooting on Wednesday.

 

At approximately 11:48 p.m., on Wednesday, December 18, officers were called to Chippenham Hospital after an unknown driver dropped off the male before leaving the area.

 

The male, John Kelson, Jr., 18, of Richmond, had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead by medical personnel shortly after arrival.

 

Detectives have determined the shooting occurred in the 3400 block of Walmsley Boulevard and are investigating.

Suspect Sought in Theft of Motor Vehicle

 

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the female in the attached photos who is a suspect in a motor vehicle theft that occurred at the Omni Hotel.

 

At approximately 3:51 a.m. on November 23, officers were called to the 100 block of S 12th Street to investigate a motor vehicle theft. When officers arrived, an employee reported that an unknown female had illegally removed a vehicle from the business's valet area.

 

On December 5, 2024, the stolen vehicle was recovered in Norfolk, VA, and towed by Virginia State Police.

 

The suspect was described as a female wearing a dark blue T-shirt, grey pants, and white open-toed shoes. She was captured on the hotel surveillance camera, and her photos are attached.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Hull Street Road this week.

 

At approximately 5:36 p.m., Sunday, December 15, officers were called to the 5700 block of Hull Street Road for the report of a robbery that was upgraded to a shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male, James Owens, 38, of Chesterfield, down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

At approximately 1:21 p.m., Saturday, December 14, officers were called to the 3600 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a robbery that was upgraded to a shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Wesley Jefferson, 37, of Richmond, down on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Two Charged in Richmond Highway Homicide Investigation

 

Following indictments by a grand jury on Monday, December 2, the suspects in the homicide that occurred in the 00 block of Richmond Highway in September have now been charged for that incident.

 

Douglas Harris, 51, of Richmond, has been charged with first degree murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm by a violent felon. Kellie Johnson, 46, of Richmond has been charged with first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Their booking photos are attached.

 

At approximately 7:12 a.m., on Thursday, September 26, officers were called to the 200 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Manchee Edwards, Jr., 23, of Richmond, down and unresponsive in a front yard of a structure. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

RPD Command Staff Walk along West Avenue

WHAT:            Richmond Police Department Command Staff Community Walk

 WHEN:            4 p.m., TODAY, December 18

 WHERE:          The meeting location is the 1000 block of West Avenue

 

Richmond Police Department command staff and Third Precinct officers will walk along West Avenue in Sector 313 with collaborating public safety partners to interact with residents and offer crime prevention tips. This neighborhood has seen recent incidents of theft from motor vehicles, package thefts and theft of copper downspouts. Newly promoted Lieutenant Cynthia Marlowe and participants will engage residents to better understand their needs and hear their concerns and suggestions for improvements in public safety.

 

BACKGROUND:    

This walk is part of a series as the RPD Command Staff walks and talks with residents throughout the various city precincts which has been a longstanding tradition of the department. The RPD is committed to cultivating opportunities for open dialogue and building relationships with citizens that extend beyond the response to emergencies.
