Victim Identified in Evening Admiral Gravely Boulevard Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in Sunday evening’s homicide on Admiral Gravely Boulevard as Tequan T. Greenhowe, a male in his 20s.

At approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard for several reports of a shooting. Once on scene, they found Greenhowe outside his residence with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

Detectives are working to determine whether this incident is connected to the homicide which occurred several hours earlier in the same area.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery on Mechanicsville Turnpike

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photos, who is the suspect in a commercial robbery that occurred earlier this month.

Just after 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, September 20, an unknown male entered the 804 Market in the 1600 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. He displayed a handgun, gave the clerk a plastic bag and told him to fill it with money. The suspect then fled with an undisclosed amount of money and was last seen running east on Fairfield Avenue.

Suspect Sought in Church Hill Thefts from Motor Vehicles, Credit Card Fraud

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photos and video, who is the suspect in two separate thefts from motor vehicles. He is also suspected of using a credit card to make fraudulent purchases earlier this month.

In the early morning hours of September 10, 2020, the suspect broke into a vehicle in the 300 block of North 25th Street and stole a camera, which was covered with a sweatshirt on the backseat.

In the early morning hours of September 12, 2020, the same suspect broke into a vehicle in the 700 block of North 27th Street and stole a wallet, which contained various items including cash, a driver’s license, a Social Security card, and a credit card. The victim stated their credit card had been used at several businesses in the Richmond metro area. The security video shows the suspect at one of those locations.

Detectives want to remind citizens of RPD’s ongoing “Lock It or Lose It” campaign.  Taking a few small precautions can help secure a vehicle and prevent crimes of opportunity such as motor vehicle theft or theft from motor vehicles:

·       Lock car doors.  Regardless of where it’s parked, lock up and keep valuables out of sight.

·       Never leave keys inside the car. It makes the vehicle an easy target.

·       Don’t leave a running vehicle unattended, even for a few minutes.

Arrest Made at the Circle on Monument Avenue

An arrest was made last night after an assault at the circle on Monument Avenue.


At approximately 11:20 p.m., officers were called to the circle on Monument Avenue for the report of an assault. Officers arrived and found an adult male who had suffered injuries. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.


Officers spoke to several witnesses and located the suspect, Brandon Fountain, at the scene. He was arrested and charged with malicious wounding. His photo is attached.

At approximately 6 p.m., officers responded to the 1200 block of Admiral Gravely Boulevard for several reports of a shooting. Once on scene, they found an adult male with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

At approximately 2:45 a.m. on September 23, 2020, officers responded to the 1100 block of North 25th Street for reports of person shot. Once on scene, they found Gibson unresponsive on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound. She was pronounced at the scene.

At approximately 12:06 a.m. today, officers received a call for trouble unknown in the 1700 block of Clarkson Road. When officers arrived, they found Rolando Maldonado-Ortega suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries where he later died.

Suspect and Vehicle of Interest Sought in Redd Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect and vehicle of interest in connection to a homicide that occurred last week.

At approximately 7:46 p.m. on Wednesday, September 16, officers responded to the 1900 block of Redd Street for the report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located Marquis Bushnell, a male in his 30s, suffering from a gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. Bushnell died from his injuries shortly after.

“Marquis Bushnell was a father who had just moved to the area,” said Major Crimes Detective A. Darnell. “He was shot and killed while carrying groceries in for his family. We know someone out there has information that can help us bring justice for his family.”

The vehicle of interest is described as a black or dark colored newer model Dodge Journey SUV. The vehicle has dark wheels, no front license plate, and silver accents.

Arrests Made During Protest at RPD Headquarters

September 24, 2020

A large group of protesters assembled at Monroe Park last night, Wednesday, September 23, 2020, around 9 p.m. They then marched to the Richmond Police Department’s Third Precinct on South Meadow Street and demonstrated there for about 30 minutes. The group then came to RPD Headquarters at 200 West Grace Street, where they remained for approximately four and a half hours.

While outside RPD Headquarters, protesters were observed spray painting the building, attempting to blind police personnel by shining lasers at them multiple times and blocking traffic.

The protest at RPD Headquarters resulted in three arrests. Booking photos of the individuals are attached.

Noah Woodruff is charged with disorderly conduct for pulling an officer’s shield.

Lynn Murphy was served with an outstanding warrant for obstructing free passage.

Dani Short is charged with obstruction of justice for interfering with the arrest of Murphy.

Victim Identified in North 21st Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Monday morning’s homicide as Stanley L. Robinson, Jr., a male in his 20s.

At approximately 6:49 a.m. on September 21, 2020, officers were called to the 1500 block of North 21st Street for the report of a person down. Once on scene, they found Robinson in a field with a gunshot wound. The field is located between North 20th and 21st Streets and U and V Streets. Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

At approximately 2:52 p.m., on Monday, September 21, officers responded to the 3500 block of East Richmond Road for a report of gunfire. Once on scene, they found Surita M. Abdul-Majid inside a residence suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced at the scene.

Suspect Sought in Destruction of Property at Law Firm

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photo who intentionally cut the phone and internet cables to a private law firm on several occasions this year. 

Security video shows the suspect outside Tavenner & Beran, PLC, located at 20 N 8th Street, on Saturday, September 19. The most recent incident occurred on September 21.  A photo of the suspect is attached.

Detectives believe this suspect opened the electrical box and cut the wires inside back in January. After a lock was installed, he proceeded to cut all the wires to the electrical box again.

Pedestrian Struck in Hopkins Road Hit-and-Run

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team is seeking additional information on a hit-and-run the occurred earlier this month.

At approximately 10:40 p.m. on September 9, 2020, investigators with the RPD Crash Team responded to the 3400 block of Hopkins Road, collected evidence and completed measurements. They have determined a vehicle traveling on Hopkins Road struck a pedestrian in the roadway. The vehicle did not stay on scene. A passerby stopped and called 911.  The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Suspect Sought in Convenience Store Larceny

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the individual in the photo who stole hundreds of dollars worth of candy from a convenience store earlier this month.

On Sunday, September 13, an unknown male entered the BP in the 2600 block of East Main Street. He removed a garbage bag from his pants and then went to the candy aisle and filled the entire bag with candy. The suspect left the store and was last seen walking to a hatchback vehicle.

Suspects Sought in Triple Shooting

Richmond Police detectives are attempting to identify the two suspects who shot three people earlier this month in the Beaufont neighborhood off of Midlothian Turnpike.

At approximately 4:02 p.m. on Friday, September 11, officers responded to the 6200 block of Lamar Drive for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found three adult males who had been shot. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Both suspects were described as black males between 5’6” – 5’8” tall, and in their early 20’s. One suspect was described as heavy-set with short hair and a dark brown complexion. He wore a brown t-shirt and blue jeans. The other suspect was described as having a medium build and long dreadlocks or braids. He wore blue jeans without a shirt.

The suspects were seen leaving the area in an older model sedan, dark green in color, possibly a Toyota Camry. The vehicle had dark tinted windows.

Arrest Made in Midlothian Turnpike Shooting

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in a shooting on Midlothian Turnpike that occurred last month.

Sayvon A. Knight was arrested September 15, 2020 by members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force and First Precinct Focus Mission Team (FMT). He is charged with possession of a firearm by a felon in relation to the shooting. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

Around 3:30 a.m. on August 29, 2020, officers responded to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a person shot. Once on scene, they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in last night’s homicide as Marquis B. Bushnell, a male in his 30s.

At 7:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, officers responded to a shooting in the 1900 block of Redd Street. Officers found Bushnell on a sidewalk with gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Drewry Street Shooting Results in One Dead, One Injured

Shortly after 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, officers were called to a shooting in the 1300 block of Drewry Street. Officers found two males suffering with gunshot wounds. They were taken to a local hospital. One victim had an injury that was not considered life threatening. The other victim, a juvenile male in his late teens died at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

A third male was injured near the scene when the vehicle he was driving crashed. He also was taken to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening.

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest in a shooting that occurred last month on Derwent Road.

Victim Identified in East Blake Lane Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Friday’s homicide as Jeremiah Darden, Jr., a male in his 20s.

At approximately 12:33 a.m. Friday, Sept. 11, officers responded to the 00 block of East Blake Lane for a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they found Darden in the roadway. He was taken to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life-threatening. He later died at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The area of the shooting is near the busy intersection of Hull Street and East Broad Rock Road. Detectives ask anyone traveling in the area at the time who may have observed suspicious people or a situation to contact detectives.

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a 14-year-old male in connection with a shooting last week.

The teen, whose name will not be released because he is a juvenile, is charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

At approximately 1:23 p.m. on Sunday, September 6, officers responded to a shooting in the 1000 block of St. James Street. When officers arrived, they found an adult male with a gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Three Sought for Civil Disorder

The male in the dark blue tank top is suspected of arson for an incident that occurred in the alley in the 500 block of North Harrison Street on May 31, 2020.



The male in the black shirt is suspected of arson and vandalism over several hours on July 25, 2020. A detail of the tattoo on his right arm is also attached.

Suspect Sought in Car Vandalisms

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photos. He is suspected of keying several vehicles in the Shockoe Bottom area.

Sometime between 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday, August 23, a woman said she parked her car in the 2300 block of East Main Street. When she later went to move her car, she discovered someone had keyed her vehicle. The suspect also left a note stating, “This is a loading zone not a park however long you want zone.”

Detectives believe the suspect also is responsible for keying several other cars in the area.

RPD Seeking GRTC Pulse Assault Victim, Man Wanted for Attacking Women

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the victim of a recent assault on a GRTC Pulse bus to come forward. 

At around noon on August 31, 2020, security video (link sent separately) shows a man rising from his seat on a GRTC Pulse bus. As he steps towards the back of the bus, he intentionally and forcefully strikes the victim, seated directly behind him, in the head. The suspect pretends to slip, and then slips near the driver. We covered the victim’s face for her safety, but detectives would like to speak to her about the incident. The suspect eventually exited the bus.

The same man is suspected in two other random attacks on women in the City of Richmond, as well as another assault of a woman in Henrico County.

At around 10:15 a.m. on August 31, 2020, security video shows the elderly victim using a cane to cross East Broad Street at North 4th Street. When she reaches the sidewalk, the suspect punches her in the face with such force she’s knocked to the ground. The suspect walked away.

At around 3:45 p.m. on July 21, 2020, security video shows the victim on her phone and the suspect seated directly in front of her. As the bus approaches a stop, the suspect leans back and elbows her in the head and chest. The suspect again pretends he slipped and fell, then elbows the victim in the head a second time. The suspect exited the bus.

Man Arrested for Brandishing Firearm near circle at Monument & Allen Avenues

During a citywide task force walk-through on Monument Avenue last week, RPD officers arrested Keyon S. Hardy. He was taken into custody Thursday, September 3 in the 400 block of North Allen Avenue.

Hardy had an outstanding warrant for brandishing a firearm in the same area from the day before. He is also charged with possession of ammunition by a felon. His booking photo is attached.

Also attached is a photo of the weapon recovered by officers. It was originally believed to be a military-style assault rifle, but upon closer examination it was found to be a BB gun.  There were no indicators on the weapon that it was not a real firearm.

RPD Looking for Midlothian Turnpike Shooting Suspect

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating the suspect in a shooting last weekend.

Sayvon A. Knight has an outstanding warrant for possession of a firearm by a felon in relation to the shooting. Additional charges are pending. A photo of him is attached. Knight currently has a shaved head.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29, officers responded to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a person shot. Once on scene, they found an adult female suffering from a gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Victim Identified in Halifax Avenue Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in yesterday’s death investigation as Kyre E. Smith, a male in his 20s.

Shortly before noon yesterday, officers responded to the 2200 block of Halifax Avenue for a shooting. When officers arrived, they found Smith and another adult male who had been shot. They were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Smith died later at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

At the time, the RPD officers were assisting the Richmond Sheriff’s Office in dealing with those protesters who had moved from the public sidewalk onto Justice Center grounds – causing a security concern.

Shortly before 7:00 p.m. yesterday, a bicyclist blocked a tow truck as it attempted to remove a vehicle parked illegally outside the Justice Center. When an RPD officer arrived, the bicyclist attempted to flee the scene and was stopped by the officer. Other protesters attempted to interfere with that arrest and others that followed. They were also arrested

Arrests Made During Protest Outside Justice Center

The Richmond Police Department tonight arrested eleven individuals during a protest outside the Justice Center in the City of Richmond. One person was charged with obstructing a tow truck as it attempted to remove an illegally parked vehicle. Ten other persons were charged with obstructing RPD officers as they attempted to restore order.


At the time, the RPD officers were assisting the Richmond Sheriff’s Office in dealing with those protesters who had moved from the public sidewalk onto Justice Center grounds – causing a security concern.


Shortly before 7:00 p.m., a bicyclist blocked a tow truck as it attempted to remove a vehicle parked illegally outside the Justice Center. When an RPD officer arrived, the bicyclist attempted to flee the scene and was stopped by the officer. Other protesters attempted to interfere with that arrest and others that followed. They were also arrested.


The bicyclist was charged with Obstruction of Justice without Force – (18.2-460A). The other ten individuals were charged with Obstruction of Justice with Force – (18.2-460).


The names of those arrested will be released tomorrow.
