Richmond Police Honors Sacrifices of Fallen with Ceremony, Wreath-Laying, Street Name Change

BACKGROUND:       Each year law enforcement agencies across the country honor those     who gave their lives in the line of duty during National Police Week.
                                   
                                    This year’s observance is May 13 through May 19.
Mayor Levar M. Stoney, Chief Alfred Durham and the Richmond Police Department will pay homage to Richmond’s fallen officers and also remember those who served the Department and passed away in 2017 and to date in 2018.



WHAT:                       Wreath-Laying at Statue/Street Name Change Unveiled
           
WHEN:                       7 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2018
           
WHERE:                     Trafford Road and Blanton Avenue, Byrd Park
           
BACKGROUND:       The Richmond Police Department will lay a wreath at the Police Memorial Statue located in Byrd Park in commemoration of Police Memorial Week. After the brief ceremony the name of Trafford Road will be changed to “Police Memorial Way” with the unveiling of the street sign.

Members of the public and the media are invited to attend both events.
