Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested

Richmond Police Department detectives from the Third and Fourth precincts have arrested the person suspected of robbing one bank in Richmond yesterday and attempting to rob two others.

Detectives arrested Levy G. Monroe, 34, of the 100 block of West Federal Street, and have charged him with attempted robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in connection with the attempted robbery of the SunTrust bank on West Broad Street yesterday. Additional charges are pending in connection with the attempted robbery of the SunTrust bank on East Grace Street and the bank robbery of the Well Fargo bank on West Broad Street. At approximately 12:03 p.m., detectives believe Monroe passed a note demanding cash to a teller in the SunTrust bank, located in the 400 block of East Grace Street. He left the bank without receiving any cash and fled the area on foot.

At approximately 2:10 p.m., detectives believe Monroe passed a note demanding cash to a teller in the SunTrust bank, located in the 1800 block of West Broad Street. No cash was received and he left the bank.

Approximately 12 minutes later, detectives believe Monroe handed a note to a teller demanding cash in the Wells Fargo bank, located in the 3500 block of West Broad Street. During this attempt he received cash from the teller and walked out of the bank.

No weapon was displayed in any of the three incidents and there were no injuries.

The first bank is located in Fourth Precinct and the other two are in Third Precinct. Detectives from both precincts investigated this case. This morning, the investigation led detectives to the Gilpin Court neighborhood where they located Monroe and arrested him without incident.
