Suspect Charged in Homicide in December on Floyd Avenue

Following indictment by a grand jury, the suspect in the homicide of Michael Jones, 48, of Richmond, on Floyd Avenue last month has been charged.

Matthew Hellams, 24, of Richmond, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony for the shooting in a duplex in the 2300 block of Floyd Avenue. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 8:20 p.m., on Tuesday, December 5, officers were called to Floyd Avenue for the report of trouble unknown. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Jones, down and unresponsive in the residence. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
