Suspects Sought in Pizza Place Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the males in the photos who are suspects in a commercial robbery that occurred this week.

On Sunday, at approximately 5 p.m., the two male suspects entered the Pizza Place restaurant located at 1731 E. Main St., brandished a firearm and robbed the business. There were no injuries.

The suspects fled on foot towards East Cary Street.

Suspect Sought in Trailer Theft


Third Precinct detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the photo and video who is a person of interest in a recent theft of a cargo trailer.

The incident occurred around 8 a.m. Thursday, May 28 in an alley in the 2300 block of West Main Street. An employee noticed a black cargo trailer that had been secured at the back of the business was missing and reviewed security footage. The video shows a black male walk up to the trailer, leave the camera frame briefly to manipulate the trailer, then grab the tongue of the trailer and walk away.

The person of interest is described as a black male wearing a black hoodie-style jacket, jeans and white tennis shoes.

RPD, VSP Join Forces to Kick Off Summer Initiative

BACKGROUND:     Each summer, the Richmond Police Department partners with the Virginia State Police to target two crime influences in the city – fugitives and firearms. Known as the Fugitives and Firearms Initiative – FFI – it is part of the police department’s strategy to reduce violent crime, specifically gun violence, in the city.

This summer, the initiative is ramping up its efforts to find and seize illegal firearms and they’re directly asking for the community’s help to do so.

“Our goal is to eradicate gun violence throughout the city. With this joint operation with Virginia State Police we will target illegal firearms, violent offenders and fugitives,” Area 2 Major Michael Shamus said.

“The officers in FFI will be engaging with the community throughout the Initiative to foster even more growth in our relationship with the citizens. The public plays an important role in this process. We encourage anyone with knowledge of illegal firearms to call Richmond Police at (804) 646-5100 or Crime Stoppers, which is anonymous, at 780-1000.”

Virginia State Police Richmond Division Commander Capt. Steve Chumley, Major Shamus and Lt. Don Davenport - who’s in charge of this summer’s initiative - will join FFI officers to discuss the kickoff of this operation and how the public can help at Wednesday’s news conference.

Officer-Involved Shooting Investigation Update

WHAT:                   RPD Chief Alfred Durham and Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael          Herring will provide an update on an officer-involved shooting investigation

WHEN:                   11 a.m., Monday, June 1, 2015

WHERE:                 John Marshall Courts Building

BACKGROUND:     The Richmond Police Department and the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office have been investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred April 1, 2015 in a motel parking lot on Midlothian Turnpike.

Roderick Hardy, 29, of the 15000 block of Cox Road, Church Road, VA was shot by an RPD officer after Hardy displayed a handgun and pointed it at RPD Officers.

Hardy was treated at a local hospital and discharged several weeks later.

Hardy is currently being held in the Richmond Justice Center awaiting trial. He is charged with Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon and Brandishing a Firearm.

The Force Investigation Team (FIT) from the Department’s Office of Professional Responsibility investigated the incident and produced a report it submitted to the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. The report includes witness statements, video of the incident, and forensic evidence collected at the scene.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Herring will announce the results of his office’s investigation.

Chief Alfred Durham will provide new information about the incident and the subsequent investigation.

Petosky Avenue Homicide Investigation


June 1, 2015

The Richmond Police Department is currently conducting a homicide investigation as a result of a shooting last evening.

On Sunday, at approximately 7:36 p.m., officers were called to a parking lot in the 5600 block of Petosky Avenue for the report of shots fired. Before officers could arrive a male was driven in a personal vehicle to a local hospital where he died.

Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. He will be identified once next of kin has been notified.

Another male from the incident was driven in a personal vehicle to a business parking lot at the intersection of Midlothian Turnpike and Covington Avenue where an ambulance was called. He was suffering from a gunshot wound. His injury is not considered life threatening.

Detectives are investigating.

Victim Identified in Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is currently conducting a death investigation as a result of a domestic incident that occurred this morning.

At approximately 1:45 a.m., officers were called to an apartment in the 4600 block of Grove Avenue for the report of a domestic argument between a male and a female. Officers arrived and found Woodrow E. Anstead, 38, of the 00 block of South Stafford Avenue in the apartment suffering from a knife wound.

He was transported to a local hospital where he died.

Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

The Richmond Police Department detectives have consulted with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office. This has been classified a death investigation and detectives are not seeking suspects at this time. The investigation continues.

Victim Identified in Old Carnation Street Homicide

The victim from this morning’s shooting on Old Carnation Street has died.

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim as Deaullandy G. Coleman, 58, of the 400 block of Old Carnation Street.

At approximately 4:08 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of Old Carnation Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found Coleman in a residence suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries this afternoon.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives are working the homicide investigation and have strong leads in this case.
