Victim Identified in Kinney Street Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in the homicide on Kinney Street on Monday as Matthew Gutterman, 26, of Norfolk.

At approximately 4:24 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 1000 block of Kinney Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Gutterman, down and unresponsive in front of a structure. He had suffered apparent gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers and detectives received information that a possible suspect had entered a structure in the 1000 block of Kinney Street. Out of an abundance of caution, RPD brought additional units to the area, including the RPD SWAT team. Following a search warrant being obtained, officers entered the structure but no suspect was located.

RPD detectives with the Major Crime Division are investigating.

North 31^st Street Death Investigation

This morning at approximately 9:52 a.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of North 31^st Street for the report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and located an adult male down and unresponsive outside of a home. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his wound.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

A person of interest at the scene, an adult male, presented a firearm to officers which was seized. He has been taken into investigative custody and is being interviewed.

Detectives will continue their investigation and consult with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney to determine whether charges will be placed.

Detectives are not looking for any other individuals connected to this shooting at this time. Detectives ask any neighbors who may have video or images of the incident from doorbell cameras or other devices to contact police.

The Richmond Police Department is conducting a death investigation in the 1000 block of Kinney Street.

 

Officers are currently on scene investigating the incident. There is a significant police presence in the area of Leigh and Kinney streets, including members of RPD’s SWAT team.

 

Residents and motorists are asked to avoid the area while officers continue their investigation.

 

This remains an active and ongoing investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

RPD Thanks Community, Announces Arrest in North Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department thanks the community for tips and information that led to the identity and location of the suspect in the North Avenue homicide.

“The arrest in this tragic homicide demonstrates the power of a community working together to bring justice to the victim’s family and the entire city of Richmond,” said Chief Rick Edwards. “I want to personally thank the members of our community who came forward with critical information that helped our detectives identify and locate the suspect. Our detectives acted swiftly and professionally, following up on those tips and locating and arresting the suspect without incident within hours. This outcome reflects both the dedication of our investigators and the strength of our partnership with the people we serve. We are grateful for the community’s trust and its commitment to making Richmond safer.”

RPD detectives, with assistance of the U.S. Marshals Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, located the suspect, Justin Regis, 21, of Richmond, last night and arrested him without incident. He has been charged with armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

On Saturday at approximately 5:29 a.m., a passerby saw a person down in a business in the 4200 block of North Avenue. Richmond Police Department officers were called to the scene.

The Richmond Fire Department was called to the scene and made entry into the business. RPD officers located an adult male employee down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Abidine Boye, 30, of Richmond.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Saturday and are asking the public for assistance in identifying and locating the suspect.

On Saturday at approximately 5:29 a.m., a passerby saw a person down in a business in the 4200 block of North Avenue. Richmond Police Department officers were called to the scene.

The Richmond Fire Department was called to the scene and made entry into the business. RPD officers located an adult male employee down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene. He has been identified as Abidine Boye, 30, of Richmond.

Detectives are investigating and are sharing with the public two photos of the possible suspect in hopes he can be identified and located. The photos are attached.

Sledd Street Homicide Investigation

 

Last night, at approximately 11:54 p.m., officers responded to an apartment complex in the 900 block of Sledd Street for what was initially reported as a domestic-related incident.   Upon arrival, officers encountered a male who reported that individuals had fired shots into the apartment and that the apartment was still occupied. Officers entered the apartment and located a 17-year-old female who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.   One additional individual sustained injuries associated with the incident; however, their injuries were not the result of gunshot wounds.   The investigation remains ongoing.   Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Major Crimes Detective J.
