Richmond Police Identify Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide Victim, Suspect

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim and the suspect in last night’s homicide on Chamberlayne Avenue.

Around 8:30 p.m. August 27, 2020, officers responded to the 5200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a shooting at the 7-Eleven store. Once on scene, they found Vanterry M. Fields, a male in his 50s, in the parking lot with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Craig Maryland was immediately taken into custody. He is charged with second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

Detectives have determined the victim and suspect, who knew each other, got into a fight, which led to the shooting.
