Officer’s Vehicle Struck by Gunfire

Officer’s Vehicle Struck by Gunfire

Last night at approximately 10:48 p.m., a Richmond Police Department vehicle, being operated on patrol by an RPD officer, was struck by gunfire.

A Second Precinct officer was operating the vehicle westbound in the 5700 block of Hull Street Road when a gunshot struck the vehicle, shattering the rear driver-side window. Photos of the vehicle are attached.

The officer was unharmed and remained in the area searching for the suspect. No officers discharged their weapons during this incident.

Approximately four minutes later, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash at the intersection of West Carnation Street and Atmore Drive. An adult male was located with injuries sustained in the crash. He was transported to a local hospital with injures that were considered life threatening. A firearm was recovered from the crash site.

Forensics collected evidence at both scenes while Major Crimes detectives canvassed the area.

Detectives have determined that the male involved in the crash is the same individual who fired at the officer. Detectives are consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office regarding charges.
