Parkwood Avenue Death Investigation

This morning at approximately 5:31 a.m., officers were called to the 3400 block of Parkwood Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and located an adult male outside of a structure, down and unresponsive. He appeared to have suffered trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Responding officers determined a person of interest in the death investigation was possibly in the structure. Out of an abundance of caution officers limited access to the area to the public and the RPD SWAT team responded to attempt to safely contact the individual.

Following several attempts to communicate with the individual a search warrant was obtained and executed. During entry, three “light, sound diversion devices” were deployed. These can sound like gunfire – but no shots were fired. An adult female was found inside the structure and was detained without incident. There were no additional injuries.

Parkwood Avenue and adjacent intersections were closed for several hours to accommodate the investigation.

Detectives are investigating.

Victim Identified in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the fatal shooting that occurred on Friday as Reginald Coleman, 32, of Richmond

 

At approximately 7:29 p.m., Friday, July 31, officers were called to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Coleman was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

 

The second male was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life threatening.

 

This investigation is ongoing.

Driver in Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist on Williamsburg Avenue Surrenders

The driver involved in the hit and run collision of a bicyclist on Williamsburg Avenue on Sunday surrendered today without incident.

Jorge Gudino Vasquez, 24, of Henrico County, has been charged with felony hit and run and operating a motor vehicle without a license. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 1:05 a.m. on July 19, officers were called to a collision in the 5100 block of Williamsburg Avenue. Officers arrived and found an adult male bicyclist lying in the travel lane of the roadway. He had suffered an injury from being struck by a vehicle. The driver of the vehicle did not remain on scene. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening.

The Richmond Police Department's Crash Team responded and began the investigation. Investigators used data from Flock automatic license plate readers and information from the public to locate the vehicle, which was seized yesterday.

UPDATE: Driver Charged in Hit-and-Run Crash Involving Bicyclist on Walmsley Boulevard

 

The Richmond Police Department's Crash Team has charged a driver in connection with a hit-and-run crash involving a bicyclist that occurred last Thursday night.

 

Last Thursday, at approximately 9:57 p.m., officers responded to the 4400 block of Walmsley Boulevard for a report of a vehicle-versus-bicycle crash. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male bicyclist lying in a nearby ditch. He was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

 

As a result of the Crash Team's investigation, which included information received through Crime Stoppers and detectives' investigative efforts, Dominique Smith, 36, of Richmond, turned herself in to police on Monday morning.

 

Smith has been charged with:

·         Felony hit and run

·         Driving on a suspended operator's license

·         No insurance

·         Expired vehicle registration

 

The Crash Team's investigation remains ongoing.

UPDATE: Victim Identified in East Cary Street Homicide Investigation, Aggravated Assault (2x)

 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in Saturday’s fatal stabbing as Devin Sherrod, 57, unhoused.

                                       

Early Saturday morning, July 18, at approximately 1:33 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of East Marshall Street for a report of a person who had been stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who had been sleeping on a bench and was suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries which are not considered life-threatening and remain in stable condition.

 

At approximately 6:08 a.m. on Saturday, July 18, the Richmond Ambulance Authority responded to the report of a male who was bleeding in the 100 block of East Cary Street. Emergency personnel located a deceased adult male, Sherrod, who had been sleeping in a parking deck and had suffered an apparent stab wound.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

 

At approximately 3:35 p.m. on July 18, officers located the vehicle of interest and the suspect near East 18th and Everett streets. Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force approached the suspect. During the encounter, the suspect stabbed a Task Force member, who then discharged his weapon.

 

The suspect, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with injuries initially considered critical. He remains in stable condition.

A second Task Force member sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

 

The Virginia State Police will lead the investigation into the officer-involved shooting.

Victim Identified, Person Charged with Reckless Handling of Firearm in Walmsley Boulevard Death Investigation

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the fatal shooting that occurred earlier this month on Walmsley Boulevard and have charged a person for reckless handling of a firearm in that incident.

On Saturday, July 11 at approximately 10:16 p.m., officers were called to the 3400 block of Walmsley Boulevard for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Lonray Banks, Jr., 21, of Richmond, down and unresponsive in the breezeway of an apartment building, He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives on Friday located and arrested the suspect, Davon Rush, 20, of Richmond. He has been charged with reckless handling of a firearm. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

During the recent RPD Mid-Year Crime Briefing, Chief Rick Edwards alerted the public to increasing incidents of injuries resulting from reckless handling of firearms and provided the public with tips to handle firearms more safely. The video of his comments is also attached.

Hit-and-Run Involving Bicyclist on Williamsburg Avenue

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team is investigating a hit-and-run collision involving a bicyclist in the 4400 block of Walmsley Boulevard.

 

Last night, at approximately 9:57 p.m., officers responded to the 4400 block of Walmsley Boulevard for the report of a vehicle versus bicycle collision. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male down in a ditch. The victim had been riding his bicycle westbound on Walmsley Boulevard.

 

He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries. The vehicle fled the scene.

Person of Interest Apprehended in Connection to Aggravated Assault and Homicide Investigations

                              

                              

Early this morning at approximately 1:33 a.m., officers responded to the 200 block of East Marshall Street for the report of a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male who was sleeping on a bench, suffering from a stab wound. He was transported to a local hospital with injuries not considered to be life-threatening.

 

RPD’s Capital City Intelligence Center (CCIC) assisted investigators in reviewing video and ALPR/Flock. 

 

Later this morning, at approximately 6:08 a.m., the Richmond Ambulance Authority responded to the report of a male bleeding in the 100 block of East Cary Street. Emergency personnel located a deceased adult male who had been sleeping in a parking deck who had suffered an apparent stab wound. RPD officers responded to the scene and initiated a homicide investigation. 

 

Given the circumstances, the two incidents were considered  possibly related.  With the information obtained by CCIC and investigators, a vehicle of interest and person of interest were developed.  

 

The Richmond Police Department was preparing to release this information during a planned press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. in the interest of public safety. However, the press conference was postponed after officers learned the suspect had been located.

 

At approximately 3:35 p.m., officers located the vehicle of interest and the subject near East 18th and Everett streets. Members of the U.S. Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force  approached the subject.  Upon doing so, a Task Force member was stabbed by the subject. That Task Force member discharged his weapon.

 

The suspect, an adult male, was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are considered critical, but he is in stable condition.

Yesterday at approximately 9:48 p.m., officers were called to the 1300 block of St. Peter Street for the report of a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, West, down and unresponsive, suffering from apparent stab wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in yesterday’s fatal shooting as Qvanta Johnson, 23, of Richmond.

 

At approximately 11:32 p.m. on July 5, officers responded to a report of a shooting at a large party located in the 2300 block of Bethel Street. Upon arrival, officers located two adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. One victim, Johnson, was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was also transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the manner and cause of death.

Richmond Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a wanted subject related to last night’s homicide on South Pine Street.

John Pettaway IV, 26, of Chesterfield County, has a warrant on file for Discharging a Firearm in an Occupied Dwelling. He is wanted in relation to the fatal shooting of Charlamon Stokes, 23, of Richmond, in the 100 block of South Pine Street last night.

Pettaway is approximately 5’9” tall and weighs approximately 155 pounds. His photo is attached. Pettaway should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in yesterday’s fatal shooting as Steven Johnson, 44, of Henrico County.

 

At approximately 12:01 p.m. on June 23, officers responded to the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located Johnson suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the manner and cause of death.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide on Friday on Lawson Street as Tekjuan Jarrett, 27, of Henrico County.

On Friday at approximately 11:06 a.m., officers were called to the 3400 block of Lawson Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Jarrett, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to the injury the following day.

Road Closures & No Parking for IllumiNATION Events

A portion of North Arthur Ashe Boulevard and several side streets will be closed and “No Parking” zones established for the upcoming IllumiNATION events.

These closures and “No Parking” zones will be in place on Tuesday, June 16 and from Thursday – Sunday, June 25-28. The June 16 closures will accommodate a smaller event and testing of the equipment for the larger IllumiNATION event later in the month. The times of the closures and “No Parking” zones are the same for all event days.

Victim Identified, Arrest Made in Rosewood Avenue Homicide Investigation

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Rosewood Avenue this weekend and have made an arrest.

On Saturday at approximately 5:36 a.m., officers were called to the 3300 block of Rosewood Avenue for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, officers located an adult male, Joel Reed, 42, of Richmond, down and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crimes detectives investigated and have arrested Autberto Salcedo, 49, of Richmond. He has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

Detectives are investigating the possibility this homicide was the result of an argument that escalated into a shooting. The investigation continues.

Wanted Subject Sought in Relation to Ford Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in locating a wanted subject related to Sunday’s homicide on Ford Avenue.

Ti’Yon Hackett, 18, of Hanover County, has a warrant on file for Conspiracy to Commit Murder. He is wanted for questioning in relation to the fatal shooting of Ricardo Jones, 23, of Richmond, in the 2300 block of Ford Avenue on Sunday, June 7, 2026.

Hackett is approximately 5’6” tall and weighs approximately 125 pounds. His photo is attached.

Hackett should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call 911.

One Fatality in Two-Vehicle Collision on Richmond Highway

At approximately 9:36 a.m., officers were called to the 4600 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a vehicle that had collided with a truck. Officers arrived and found a pickup truck had collided with the rear of a tractor-trailer in the right travel lane of the northbound lanes of Richmond Highway. The tractor-trailer was parked in the right travel lane and occupied by an adult male driver.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team responded to investigate. The adult male driver and sole occupant of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other injuries.

All northbound lanes of Richmond Highway were closed to accommodate the investigation. The southbound lanes remained open.

The investigation continues.
