Town Market Robbers Sought

Richmond Police need the public’s help to identify the two people in the below surveillance photos who are wanted in connection with an armed robbery yesterday.

At approximately 7:45 p.m. Sunday, two masked men entered the Town Market at 250 E. Ladies Mile Road and robbed the clerk at gunpoint of money and cigarettes.

The first suspect is described as a black male, about 24 years old, approximately 5’6” to 5’8” feet tall and weighing between 150 pounds to 170 pounds. He was last seen wearing a black jacket with a red or orange stripe across the back with a gray hoodie underneath as well as blue jeans and black shoes.

The second suspect is described as a black male, about 20 to 21 years of age, 6’0” to 6’3” feet tall and weighing between 180 pounds and 200 pounds. He was last seen wearing a dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, a black shirt and black jeans with a design on the rear pockets that possibly says “COOGI.”

Robbery Suspect Captured

Thanks to the vigilance, and keen eyesight, of Fourth Precinct officers, a robbery suspect is under arrest.

Around 9 p.m. Saturday night, officers spotted a man walking along Garland Avenue that fit the description of a robbery suspect. Soon, the suspect was under arrest.

Officers captured Marcus T. Williams, 19, of the 19,400 block of Anderson Mill, Beaverdam, around 9 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident.

Williams was wanted for his role in the breaking and entering and robbery incident that occurred in the 3300 block of Second Avenue on Thursday, November 4.

The investigation continues. Anyone with information on this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Shooting Suspect Sought

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s assistance in locating the man in the photo in connection with a shooting yesterday at 4:15 p.m. in the 1300 block of North 30^th Street.

Mario E. Harris, 20, of the 1300 block of North 30^th Street, is suspected of shooting a male during an argument. He is wanted on charges of aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm during a felony.

Harris is five feet, six inches tall and weighs 130 pounds.

Anyone with information about Harris’ whereabouts or information about this shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Arrest in Fairfax Avenue Shooting

Fairfax Avenue shooting suspect Raymond Fitzgerald is in police custody.

Second Precinct officers alerted to his warrants on file arrested Fitzgerald around midnight during a traffic stop at Albany Avenue and Jefferson Davis Highway.

Fitzgerald, 27, of the 1800 block of Idlewood Avenue is charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, a male was involved in an argument with known individuals in front of 1710 Fairfax Ave. The victim was shot during the argument.

Fairfax Avenue Shooting Suspect Wanted

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Raymond Fitzgerald. He is wanted in connection with a shooting last night in the 1700 block of Fairfax Avenue.

Fitzgerald, 27, of the 1800 block of Idlewood Avenue has a felony warrants on file for malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is a black male, 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 140 pounds.

Around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, a male was involved in an argument with known individuals in front of 1710 Fairfax Ave. The victim was shot during the argument. His injuries are not life-threatening.

Anyone with information about Fitzgerald’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Southwood Homicide Arrest

After following up on several strong leads, Richmond Police investigators have made an arrest in the September homicide in the Southwood community.

Levern Johnson Jr., 31, of the 700 block of Northside Avenue, was charged with murder and use of a firearm during the commission of a felony for the Sept. 18 shooting death of William Howell.

Officers found Howell, 68, of 1732 Clarkson Road, suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene. He was taken to VCU Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

This investigation is ongoing and more arrests are expected. This arrest is possible thanks to the tireless efforts by investigators, especially lead Detective Rick Edwards, and the support from Henrico Police and the Southwood community.

Richmond Police Awards Honor Best in Department, Community

From saving lives to shutting down an illegal gambling operation to reducing crime in areas across the city – the Richmond Police Department honors and recognizes its best each quarter for their work to foster its community policing efforts.

The work for the third quarter of 2010 will be recognized in an awards ceremony 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, at the Richmond Police Training Academy, 1202 W. Graham Road. The event is open to the public.

But the recognition only begins within the Department. Officers also take the time to nominate individuals and organizations in the community who support the work of Richmond Police.

Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Cynthia Micklem was a key player in stopping the illegal gambling operation in a Southside residence. She worked with detectives and officers in the sector to put an end to this crime, which had contributed to other crimes such as robbery.

The Ampthill Heights Civic Association takes community policing to heart. As stakeholders in the Second Precinct neighborhood, they have taken an active role in support of their sector lieutenant and officers, resulting in a reduction in crime along Walmsley Boulevard, which borders their community.

“It’s these partnerships – that aspect of bringing the community into community policing – that’s making a difference in our city,” Chief Bryan T. Norwood said. “We want to recognize and thank these partners and also our officers on the streets every day who work to go above and beyond their required duties and give their best back to the residents of Richmond.”
