Arrest Made in July 2017 North Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in the stabbing death last July of Vivian L. Robinson, 50, of the 4300 block of North Avenue.  After a thorough investigation and consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, the department is now classifying this death investigation as a homicide.

            

John L. Reid Jr., 61, of the 100 block of Elsing Street, Highland Springs, was arrested last week and charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding (x2). His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 11:53 p.m., on July 22, 2017, officers were called to a residence in the 3300 block of North Avenue for the report of an argument and persons stabbed. Officers arrived and found four individuals who were involved in the incident, a male and three females. The three females had suffered from stab wounds. Two were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening and Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim Identified in Southside Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s homicide in the Bellemeade neighborhood as Garry Harrison Jr., 28, of the 2200 block of Ruffin Road.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Jan. 7, police received a call for a person shot at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Jefferson Davis Highway. When officers responded to the area they located a black Nissan sedan in the 2400 block of Warwick Ave with two shooting victims inside. The adult male, Harrison, was pronounced at the scene. The second victim, an adult female, was transported to a local hospital where she is being treated for life threatening injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Victim Identified in Hillside Court Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s death investigation in Hillside Court as Javon I. Patron, 23, of the 2500 block of Alexander Avenue.

At around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, officers received a call for a shooting in the 1600 block of Rosecrest Avenue. When police arrived, they located Patron who had been shot in the rear of a dwelling. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Within the same block, a second victim, an adult male, was found suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Suspect Sought in Mosby Neighborhood Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect in yesterday morning’s homicide in the city’s Mosby neighborhood.

RPD officers are looking for Devrick Raquan Gail, 29 years of age, of Richmond. Gail is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Davon R. Daniels early yesterday morning in the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

Gail – also known as “Quan” – is described a black male, 5’ 06” tall, 180 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He has a tattooed portrait of Jesus on his left shoulder in addition to multiple tattoos on his arms and face.

Gail is known to frequent the area where the fatal shooting took place.

Anyone who spots Gail or knows of his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.

Do not approach him or make your presence known to him. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Victim Identified in Mosby Neighborhood Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s homicide in the city’s Mosby neighborhood as Davin R. Daniels, 30, of the City of Richmond.

At approximately 11:21 a.m., officers received a call for a person shot in the 1300 block of Coalter Street. When police arrived, they located Daniels suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

BACKGROUND:          RPD Chief Alfred Durham and the Richmond Police Department are proud to welcome 29 new officers to the force and invite the public to their graduation and swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

The class includes recruits from across the globe such as Ghana and Romania, and other states like California, Florida, New York, as well as many from right here in the Richmond metro area.

An extra week was added to the traditional 30 week training schedule to accommodate an expanded curriculum that includes community engagement experiences in public housing communities, city schools and homeless shelters. The recruits will also graduate as certified bicycle officers.

As newly sworn officers, they will begin eight weeks of field training this Saturday; each paired with an experienced officer.

Victim Identified in Single Vehicle Traffic Fatality

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team investigators have identified the person killed in a single vehicle fatality yesterday evening in the city’s north side as Janausia J. Sands, 19, of the 8100 block of Lee Davis Road, Mechanicsville.

At approximately 4:18 p.m. yesterday afternoon, a 2005 Honda Accord sedan was driving southbound in the 2700 block of Richmond-Henrico Turnpike. The vehicle suddenly veered toward the right and off of the road when it struck a tree.

A passenger, Janausia Sands, was found dead at the scene. A second passenger sustained life-threatening injuries. The driver sustained non-life threatening injuries. All occupants were transported to a local hospital.

Investigators with the Crash Team interviewed witnesses and took measurements. The crash remains under investigation.  There are no charges at this time.
