Midlothian Turnpike Death Investigation

November 5, 2020

At approximately 8:05 p.m., officers responded to the 6800 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, they found an adult male inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

The Major Crimes division’s detectives are investigating this incident. The Chief of Police, Command Staff, and Third Precinct leadership also responded to the scene.

Rosetta Street Aggravated Assault

At approximately 2:28 p.m., officers were called to the 2500 block of Rosetta Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male outside of an apartment building suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with an injury that is not considered life threatening.

Suspect Sought in North 24th Street Home Break-In, Jewelry Theft

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photos and video who is suspected of breaking into a home and stealing jewelry.

At approximately 7:15 p.m. on September 16, 2020, security video from the back of a residence in the 800 block of North 24^th Street shows the male suspect walking up to the home. Detectives have determined he then kicked in the back door and stole a box and pouch, which contained jewelry valued at approximately $5,000. Attached is a photo of some of those items. A few have been in the victims’ family for years and are considered heirlooms.

Victim Identified in Phaup Street Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide on Phaup Street as Marcellus Taylor.

At approximately 1:24 p.m., officers responded to the 2300 block of Phaup Street for the report of a shooting. Once on scene, they found an adult male, Taylor, down and unresponsive with apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Vehicle, Driver Sought in Hit and Run

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team is asking for the public’s help in locating a vehicle and driver involved in a hit and run that occurred Saturday night on East Broad Rock Road.

At approximately 10:03 p.m., a grey or silver-colored SUV traveling northbound on McGuire Drive disregarded a stop sign and collided with a sedan traveling on East Broad Rock Road. The sedan overturned and the SUV left the scene.

The female driver of the sedan was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening. Other occupants, including children, were in the sedan and suffered injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Investigators with the Crash Team are asking for anyone with information about the SUV or the operator, including those who were near the scene at the time of the collision, to contact RPD Crash Team Investigator Lindsey at (804) 646-6190 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000.

Mobile Vehicle Rally Leads to Incidents at Lee Circle.

A mobile political rally, which dubbed itself as a “Trump Train” originated in Henrico County, entered the city of Richmond this afternoon. The mobile rally drove to the Lee Monument circle at Monument and Allen avenues and confrontations with individuals at the circle ensued. Some of the vehicles left the roadway and crossed grassy medians near the area.

 

At approximately 4:18 p.m. an adult female who was at the circle reported, she was pepper sprayed by an unknown individual from a vehicle. A few minutes earlier, officers responded to the 1800 block of Monument Avenue (near the Lee circle) to investigate a report of an unoccupied vehicle struck once by gunfire. No other injuries were reported to the Richmond Police Department. Officers responded to clear the area and investigate the assault.

The intersection at Monument Ave and Meadow St, Monument Ave and Lombardy St, Park Ave and Allen Ave, West Grace St and Allen Ave are closed to traffic.  Once normal traffic condition resume the community will be notified.  Local traffic and emergency vehicles will be able to travel through the area. Officers will maintain a presence and monitoring conditions in the area throughout the night.
