Arrest Made in West Cary Street Stabbing

Richmond Police detectives have arrested the suspect involved in the stabbing that occurred on West Cary Street last week.

John Harris, 58, of Richmond, was charged with malicious wounding and cutting/stabbing in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 10:16 p.m., Sunday, February 5, Harris was captured on a business surveillance camera in the 3000 block of West Cary Street stabbing an adult male victim several times. The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were considered life threatening. Photos of the suspect near the scene of the assault were released to the public by detectives last week in an attempt to identify the suspect. Detectives thank the public for their assistance in identifying Harris.

Arrests Made in East 21st Street Shooting

Arrests Made in East 21^st Street Shooting

Richmond Police detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, have arrested two suspects involved in the shooting on East 21^st Street last Friday.

Corey Poag, 40, of Richmond, was arrested without incident on Saturday and has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

Shadarryel Booker, 25, of Richmond, was also arrested without incident on Saturday and has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Her booking photo is attached.

At approximately 10:27 a.m. on Friday, February 10, officers were called to the 1500 block of East 21^st Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, who had driven a short distance from the scene, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers placed a tourniquet on the victim and he was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening.

Arrest Made, Victim Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Arrest Made, Victim Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have charged the suspect in the homicide that occurred yesterday in an apartment on Chamberlayne Avenue. 

Dajon Baskerville, 29, of Richmond, has been charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

Yesterday at approximately 10:10 p.m., officers were called to the 4200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue after Baskerville reported he had shot his girlfriend. Officers arrived to the apartment and attempted to make contact with Baskerville. Officers then heard a shot from inside the apartment and breached the door, locating Baskerville and taking him into custody and seizing a firearm. Officers then located an adult female, Summer Fuller, 31 of Richmond, who had suffered a gunshot wound. Fuller was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injury.

At no time did officers fire their service weapons.

The investigation continues.

Suspect in Attempted Robbery Sought

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect in the attached photo who attempted a robbery at a business on North Arthur Ashe Boulevard this week.

At approximately 9 p.m. on Sunday, February 5, officers were called to the 3200 block of North Arthur Ashe Boulevard for the report of an attempted robbery. The employee reported the adult male entered the business and demanded money. The suspect, seen wearing a navy blue pea coat and knit cap in the photo, shouted at the employee and threatened harm by indicating he had a firearm concealed in his clothing. The suspect then fled the area on foot.

Arrest Made, Victim Identified in East Broad Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives, with the assistance of the Henrico Police and VCU Police departments, have arrested a suspect in the homicide that occurred yesterday on East Broad Street.

Javaris Turner, 18, of Richmond, has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

Yesterday at approximately 2:11 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of East Broad Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, down and unresponsive on the north sidewalk of East Broad Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Detectives have identified him as Carlton Jackson, 36, of Richmond. An adult female also suffered a gunshot wound and she was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Detectives investigating the shootings identified a suspect vehicle that was involved and broadcast a description of the vehicle to officers. Yesterday, Henrico Police officers observed the vehicle in Henrico County and detained Turner.

“Partnerships with exemplary law enforcement agencies like Henrico Police and VCU Police are key to a safer Richmond and a safer region,” said Interim Chief Rick Edwards. “The rapid cooperation we received from the business community and the use of cutting-edge technology methods were also of paramount importance in this case. Law enforcement partners, community involvement, technology and dedicated RPD professionals were all vital factors which led to a swift arrest in this investigation.”

The investigation continues.

Today at approximately 2:11 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of East Broad Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male suffering from a gunshot wound, down and unresponsive on the north sidewalk of East Broad Street. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An adult female also suffered a gunshot wound and she was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Detectives are attempting to locate witnesses. Detectives are also attempting to locate video to aid in their investigation. The VCU Police Department is assisting in this investigation.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Missing Juvenile Sought

Missing Juvenile Sought 

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a Richmond juvenile female who has been reported missing by her family.

Elienia Mendez-Anaya, 14, was last seen on Sunday, February 5 between the hours of 1 and 3 a.m., leaving her residence near the 1000 block of East 16^th Street in the Blackwell neighborhood.

Mendez-Anaya is approximately 5’5” tall and weighs about 130 pounds. Her photo is attached.

She is believed to be in the company of an adult Hispanic male.
