Victim Identified in Newbourne Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a shooting last week on Newbourne Street as JeMario Robinson, 44, of Richmond.

July 20, at approximately 7:22 a.m., Richmond Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Newbourne Street for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, officers located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. The individual was transported to a local hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Missing Man Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a Richmond man who has been reported missing by his family.

Matthew Nasal, 40, was last seen on Sunday, July 23 around 4:45 p.m., near the Texas Beach area on the James River.

Nasal is approximately 6’2” tall and weighs about 200 pounds. His photo is attached.

Newbourne Street Death Investigation

At approximately 7:22 a.m., Richmond Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Newbourne Street for the report of a person shot. Juveniles Arrested for Multiple Robberies

Juveniles Arrested for Multiple Robberies

Richmond Police detectives have arrested two juveniles for a recent series of robberies in the Fan, Byrd Park and Carytown areas.

A juvenile male, 17, and a juvenile male, 15, both of Richmond, have each been charged with robbery. Additional charges are pending.

Over the past 10 days, the department has taken several reports of robberies in those neighborhoods that included similar suspect descriptions and circumstances.

In the course of the investigations, detectives received videos and information about the suspects from the community. With this information, Third Precinct, Fourth Precinct and the Virginia State Police conducted a joint operation in the area of Byrd Park. Several RPD units were involved, including precinct officers, detectives and Focus Mission Team members. The operation also included elements of RPD’s Operation Safe Summer.

Yesterday, this collaborative effort proved successful as members of the public, after observing the possible suspects, provided location information to RPD bicycle-qualified officers who were detailed to the operation. Soon, one suspect was located and arrested. The second suspect was located and arrested today. Both were apprehended without incident.

“This is the best example of collaboration among RPD, the public and other law enforcement, namely the Virginia State Police, that I have experienced lately,” said Interim Chief Rick Edwards. “When we say that everyone has a role in public safety this is the goal. Collaboration, open lines of communication, a zeal for looking out for our neighborhoods and our neighbors – this is Richmond at its finest.”

The investigation continues.

Subject in Officer-Involved Shooting in January Dies

The subject of a search warrant, shot after brandishing a firearm at an officer during the attempt to serve the warrant on January 9, has died.

Douglas Price, 61, of Richmond, succumbed yesterday at a local hospital where he had been receiving treatment related to the incident.

On January 9, Interim Chief Rick Edwards briefed the media with the publically-available details of the incident: At approximately 4:47 a.m. on Monday, January 9, officers attempted to serve a search warrant at a home in the 3300 block of McGuire Drive. Following the establishment of a perimeter and RPD vehicles on scene illuminating flashing emergency lights, repeated attempts to contact anyone in the house via a PA system to exit the structure were made.

With no response to the announcements, the door to the house was breached. Price was observed brandishing a firearm at an officer in the doorway and the officer fired his department-issued firearm at Price, striking him. Price was given first aid before being transported to a local hospital.

As part of Interim Chief Rick Edwards’ continued commitment to trust and legitimacy through transparency, the department will provide the public with a critical incident briefing video of the fatal use of force from this narcotics-related search warrant operation. The video will be available to view within two weeks.

“It is my continuing goal to provide to the community a clear and unbiased account of critical incidents involving the fatal use of force,” said Interim Chief Rick Edwards. “By providing the public this video evidence, which in this instance includes body-worn camera footage and crime scene photos, this critical incident briefing video will inform the public to the nature and circumstance of this critical incident.”

Victim Identified in Raven Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the shooting victim found in a vehicle on Raven Street on Monday as Darryl Jordan, Jr., 20, of Petersburg.

At approximately 9:24 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to 1900 block of Raven Street for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located a vehicle that had gone off the road and into the woods at Raven and Ford streets. Officers found the sole occupant of the vehicle, Jordan, Jr., in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. He had suffered a gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim found in an apartment on Saturday as Raymond Byers, 58, of Richmond.

Saturday, July 1, at approximately 9:22 a.m., officers were called to 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a wellness check. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Byers, down in an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
