Alert: Burglary Suspect Entering Homes in Overnight Hours

The Richmond Police Department is alerting the public to a burglary suspect who is walking into homes during the overnight hours in several neighborhoods.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the individual in the attached photos.

Third Precinct detectives are currently investigating several residential burglaries that have occurred west of North Arthur Ashe Boulevard, including in the Museum District and Windsor Farms neighborhoods.

The suspect, wearing dark clothing and a face mask, enters through a door, uses a flashlight to locate and steal items and walks away from the home.

Due to the camera settings, the clothing of the suspect appears to be bright in color in the attached photos – but are a dark color or black.

“We are asking the public to please lock their windows and doors in the overnight hours,” said Third Precinct Captain Angela Smith. “If you see anyone suspicious in your neighborhood, please call 911. For those with security systems we recommend that you activate them at night.”

Armed Robberies of U.S Postal Workers – Investigation Continues,

Detectives Seek Assistance from the Public

Richmond Police detectives are continuing long-standing armed robbery investigations into U.S. Postal workers last year and are asking for the public’s assistance to identify individuals in the attached photos. Detectives would like to speak to these individuals about the incidents.

On Thursday, March 28, 2024, at approximately 2:10 p.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of East Franklin Street for the report of an armed robbery. Officers arrived and spoke to a postal worker who stated that while she was delivering mail, an unknown male produced a handgun and demanded that she give him the mail key. The suspect took the key and then fled on foot towards North 21^st Street.

The suspect is described as a black male, last seen wearing a gray colored sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. An image from a nearby surveillance camera is attached.

At approximately 3:45 p.m., Monday, April 1, 2024, officers were called to the 200 block of Wellford Street for the report of an armed robbery. Officers arrived and spoke to a postal worker who stated that while he was delivering mail, an unknown male approached him from behind and produced a handgun, demanding that the victim hand over the mail key. The suspect took the mail key and struck the postal worker with the handgun before fleeing on foot. The victim sustained a laceration and was treated at the scene by medical personnel.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 5 foot 10 inches tall, last seen wearing all black clothing.

Detectives have determined that the postal workers were targeted for the mail key and caution the public when using the blue mailboxes to send mail.

The United States Postal Service, in a previous press release, is encouraging the public to deposit mail at secure locations, including inside your local post office or at your place of business, or hand it directly to the letter carrier.

They ask for the public’s assistance in locating and identifying this violent offender or offenders. Detectives are seeking any additional photos or videos of these incidents that may assist in these investigations.

Victim Identified in East Brookland Park Boulevard Homicide 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide on East Brookland Park Boulevard last month as Donte Johnson, 39, of Richmond. 

On Thursday, March 20 at approximately 2:05 a.m., officers were called to the 400 block of East Brookland Park Boulevard for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Johnson, inside an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Major Crimes detectives continue to investigate.

Suspects Sought in Commercial Burglary Investigation

 

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying these individuals in these photos. These individuals are persons of interest in a commercial burglary investigation.

 

Third Precinct detectives are investigating a commercial burglary that occurred at a local business located in the 2700 block of West Cary Street.

 

Yesterday at approximately 5:18 a.m., two unknown individuals were captured on a store surveillance camera forcing their way inside the locked business. Once inside, the suspects stole over two-thousand dollars’ worth of tobacco products. The suspects then left the area in an unknown direction. Photos attached.

North 1st Street Death Investigation

North 1^st Street Death Investigation

At approximately 5:26 p.m., officers were called to the 1100 block of North 1^st Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located a juvenile female, 15, outside of a residence, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives are investigating and have determined a known person was with the juvenile at the time of the shooting and has been detained as part of this investigation. Detectives are not looking for other involved individuals at this time.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide on Chamberlayne Avenue as Lamont Hawley-Barrow, 24, of Richmond. 

Yesterday at approximately 6:32 p.m., officers were called to the 4900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Hawley-Barrow, down on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

A second victim, an adult female, arrived at a local hospital in a private vehicle. She had suffered an apparent gunshot wound, which was not considered to be life threatening. 

Detectives have determined that the two victims were shot while at the same location.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Motorcyclist Identified in Fatal Crash

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the motorcyclist in the single-vehicle collision yesterday on Broad Rock Boulevard as Kevin Hernandez, 26, of Richmond.

At approximately 11:16 a.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of motorcycle that collided with a utility pole. Officers arrived and found the adult male rider, Hernandez, down and unresponsive. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and is investigating. Investigators have determined that the speed of the motorcycle was a factor in the crash.
