Cold Case: 17 Years Later, Investigation of Murdered Teen Remains Open

The Richmond Police Department is still seeking information related to the homicide of Shamar O. King who was found dead in the Byrd Park neighborhood 17 years ago.

Around 11:20 a.m. on October 19, 2001, 16-year-old Shamar O. King was shot outside of an apartment in the 2000 block of Lakeview Avenue. After receiving several calls for trouble unknown, officers arrived at the residence where they found King outside and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital where after lifesaving attempts, he soon died of his injuries.

Police believe several individuals were inside of the apartment during the time of the shooting and may have information which may lead to an arrest.

“As this investigation continues, I am hopeful that someone may remember any details that may help solve this case,” said Det. D. Burt.
