Victim Identified, Detectives Still Seeking Information in Fonticello/Carter Jones Park Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim from Sunday night’s homicide and shooting in Fonticello/Carter Jones Park as Markiya Dickson, 9, of the 7500 block of Bannock Barn Drive, Chesterfield. The family of Markiya Dickson has allowed RPD to release her name in hopes of people coming forward with information about this tragic incident.

At approximately 7:23 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to Fonticello/Carter Jones Park in the 2700 block of Bainbridge Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found that Markiya Dickson and a juvenile male had each been shot and were taken to a local hospital in a personal vehicle with life threatening injuries. Dickson succumbed to her injuries at the hospital.

“Every homicide is a tragedy, but it is especially tragic when it takes the life of someone who had so much to live for,” said Interim Chief William Smith. “The Department has received a number of tips, but we need more. We need people to come forward and provide information, no matter how minor the detail is.”
