Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in Monday’s homicide in the Southwood neighborhood as Saul Alejandro Martinez Barrera, 22, of Richmond.

Richmond Police detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, yesterday arrested Elijah Evans, 23, of Richmond and charged him with murder. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached. Detectives thank the public for providing information in this investigation and ask for continued tips so they might identify a second possible suspect.

On Monday at approximately 6:44 p.m., officers were called to the 4600 block of Southwood Parkway for a report of a shooting. Officers arrived and determined the incident occurred in the 1400 block of Treehaven Drive. Once there, officers found an adult male, Barrera, in an apartment suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Approximately three hours later, an adult male with an apparent gunshot wound self-transported to a local hospital. The injury was not considered life threatening. Detectives have determined the two shootings are connected.
