Officer Fires Service Weapon during Response to Shots Fired Incident

At approximately 8:58 p.m., officers responded to the 2000 block of Creighton Road in the Creighton neighborhood for the report of shots fired.

 

As officers approached, an officer observed an individual, an adult male, who was in possession of a firearm. That male fled on foot from the officer and did not comply with numerous commands from the officer to drop the firearm. The male brandished the firearm and the officer fired a single shot from his service weapon. There were no injuries. The male was taken into custody and a firearm was recovered.

 

Chief Gerald Smith, Command Staff, the Major Crimes division and Internal Affairs responded to the scene. The investigation continues.

 

The officer who fired his service weapon has been placed on administrative assignment as the Department investigates this incident.

 

Ireq White has been charged with trespassing and brandishing a firearm. Both charges are misdemeanors. His booking photo is attached.

Whitcomb Street Quadruple Shooting

Richmond Police detectives are investigating a quadruple shooting that occurred yesterday evening.

At approximately 11:01 p.m., officers were called to the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street for the report of a shooting.

Officers arrived and found three adult males suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A fourth victim with an apparent gunshot wound self-transported to a local hospital.

Fulton Death Investigation

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers were called to the Fulton neighborhood for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found an adult male in the 1300 block of Nelson Street who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound.

He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

The Major Crimes division’s detectives are investigating this incident and believe the shooting occurred nearby, in the 1400 block of Garber Street.

Suspect Sought in Cedar Street Construction Site Theft

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the attached photos, who is suspected of stealing building materials from a construction site.

Between September 23 and September 25, 2020, the male suspect was seen stealing more than a dozen pressure-treated boards from a construction site in the 1900 block of Cedar Street. He loaded the building materials into an older model pickup truck with a ladder. The estimated value of the boards is more than $550.

Arrest Made, Victim Identified in West Cary Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest and identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide on West Cary Street.

At approximately 8:24 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2020, officers responded to the 1700 block of West Cary Street for the report of male possibly having a psychotic episode outside. Once on scene, they came in contact with Maury E. Williams. Williams informed officers of an incident that occurred inside a nearby residence, where they found his girlfriend, Christina Cunningham – a female in her 20s – unresponsive with apparent stab wounds. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Williams was arrested and has been charged with Murder and Stabbing in the Commission of a Felony. His booking photo is attached.

Detectives have determined the suspect and victim had been in a relationship for approximately one year.

Victim Identified in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in Thursday night’s homicide on Midlothian Turnpike as Ja’Shawn Pressley, a male in his late teens.

At approximately 8:05 p.m. on Thursday, November 5, officers responded to the 6800 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, they found Ja’Shawn Pressley inside a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Arrests Made During Protest in Downtown Richmond

The Richmond Police Department made several arrests last night during a protest in the downtown area.

Earlier in the day, RPD became aware of a potential event scheduled for 8:00 p.m. at the Lee Circle. At approximately 9:30 p.m., a few dozen protesters – led by the group “Black Lives Matter 757” – assembled nearby at the Stuart Circle. They marched alongside several protest support vehicles for approximately an hour before the vehicles drove into oncoming traffic at E Broad and N 9^th streets.

During that encounter, RPD officers wrote 10 summonses for various traffic offenses to include reckless driving and served two outstanding misdemeanor warrants. They also arrested Stephen Ward for carrying a concealed weapon. He was released on summons. Attached is a photo of the items he had on his person.

Some members of the group then continued marching in the downtown area. At approximately 11:30 p.m., RPD officers observed Kevin M. Beecher throw a traffic cone at an occupied tractor trailer, traveling through the intersection of W Broad and N Henry streets. The cone damaged the windshield (photo attached). Beecher then fled on foot, which resulted in a short pursuit. He was apprehended a block away at W Broad and N Monroe streets. Beecher is charged with inciting a riot, throwing a missile at an occupied vehicle, destruction of property, and pedestrian in roadway.
