BACKGROUND:
Chief Bryan T. Norwood and the Richmond Police Department will honor personnel and community members for their work in 2011 to contribute toward a safer city.

Ruby Turner, a staunch advocate for law enforcement throughout the Metropolitan Richmond region, will be presented a Service to Law Enforcement award for her many years of contributions to Richmond Police. She is just one of the many Service to Law Enforcement award honorees to be recognized.

Also, the Department will present the following prestigious annual awards:
• Precinct of the Year,
• Sector of the Year,
• Rookie of the Year and
• The Dominic O. Tabb Communications Officer of the Year.

The public and members of the media are invited to attend.

Can You Help Us Find This Missing Man?

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to find a man suffering from medical issues who is missing.

Floyd Pendleton Smith, 59, was last seen by his son at 2 a.m. today in the 700 block of Stockton Street. Smith, pictured below, is described as a black male with black hair and brown eyes, approximately 5’10 feet tall and weighing 180 pounds.

He was last seen wearing an orange, hooded sweatshirt, a big puffy dark blue jacket with white trim, a Redskins baseball cap and gloves. He wears glasses and has a bushy mustache.

Family members and detectives are concerned about Smith’s whereabouts because he has medical issues and is unfamiliar with the area.

Driver, Passenger in Fatal Chippenham Parkway Crash Identified

The Richmond Police Department has identified the persons who died in yesterday’s accident on Chippenham Parkway.

Around 4:35 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, a vehicle traveling northbound on Chippenham Parkway crossed over the center median into southbound traffic right after the Stony Point exit. The vehicle was immediately struck by a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the northbound vehicle, Toure Lynette Thaniel, 27, and the passenger, Shalina Marie Perry, 22, were pronounced dead at the scene. Thaniel lived in the 6000 block of Lamar Drive. Perry lived in the 3400 block of Meadowdale Boulevard in Chesterfield County.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. He remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.

The Richmond Police Crash Team’s investigation of this accident is ongoing.

Police Identify Columbia Street Homicide Victim

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in the South Side homicide that occurred late yesterday afternoon.

At 4:20 p.m. officers responded to a shooting in the 3000 block of Columbia Street. When officers arrived, they found Adl Musa Johnson, 22, lying on a sidewalk with an apparent gunshot wound. Johnson, who lived in the 1900 block of Raven Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers caught and detained a possible suspect several blocks away from the homicide and he is being held for questioning. The investigation is ongoing.

Fatal Accident Closes Chippenham Parkway

The northbound and southbound lanes of Chippenham Parkway at the Stony Point exit are closed because of a fatal traffic accident this evening. The roadway is not expected to reopen before 11 p.m.

Around 4:35 p.m. a vehicle traveling northbound on Chippenham Parkway crossed over the center median into southbound traffic right after the Stony Point exit. The vehicle was immediately struck by a southbound vehicle.

The driver of the southbound vehicle was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Both the driver and the front-seat passenger in the northbound vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. There were no other occupants in either vehicle.

The Richmond Police Crash Team is in the early stages of this accident investigation.

More information will be released when it becomes available.

Police Investigate Homicide on Columbia Street

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a South Richmond homicide that occurred this afternoon.

At 4:20 p.m. officers responded to a shooting in the 3000 block of Columbia Street where they found a male with an apparent gunshot wound lying on a sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers caught and detained a possible supsect several blocks away from the homicide and he is being held for questioning.

Police Identify Westover Hills Boulevard Homicide Victim

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in yesterday's homicide.

At 4:18 p.m. Friday, Jan. 20, officers responded to reports of shots fired and a man down in the 600 block of Westover Hills Boulevard. When officers arrived they found Samuel L. Johnson, 38, with gunshot wounds lying next to a car in the parking lot of the Ashton Square Apartments. Johnson, who lived in the 1800 block of Blair Street, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives continue to canvass the Westover Hills neighborhood for information and do have a person interest in the investigation.
