Victim Identified, Suspect Sought in Hazelhurst Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide on Hazelhurst Avenue as Calvin Hubbard, 71, of Richmond.

At approximately 3:39 p.m., Richmond Police were called to the 600 block of Hazelhurst Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and located Hubbard in an alley suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injury.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect shown in video clips from surveillance cameras near the scene of the shooting. The video can be viewed here:

In the video, the suspect was wearing athletic sweatpants with white stripes down the side of the leg. Images of the suspect fleeing the scene and the suspect’s pants are attached.



Hubbard was on his bicycle when he encountered the suspect and, seconds later, the shooting occurred. Hubbard was a well-known community member and detectives are asking those who knew him to provide background information on his day-to-day routine which might prove useful to the investigation.
