Arrest Made, Victim Identified in West Clay Street Homicide 

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide on West Clay Street last night as Derrit Banks, 55, of Richmond.                          

At approximately 7:08 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of West Clay Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male, Banks, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives have arrested Jermorrie Simmons, 49, of Richmond. He was charged with second degree murder. His booking photo is attached.

Detectives are not looking for any other suspects in this homicide investigation.

Homicide Victim Identified in North 22nd Street Double Shooting

Richmond Police detectives have identified the homicide victim in last night’s shooting as Trimaine Reed, 19, of Richmond.

At approximately 7:38 p.m., officers were dispatched to a local hospital where two victims arrived in a private vehicle.  Both victims had apparent gunshot wounds.  The adult victim, Reed, was pronounced dead once he arrived at the hospital.  The second victim, a juvenile male, suffered injuries that are not considered to be life threatening.

Detectives determined that this shooting occurred in the 1700 block of North 22nd Street.   

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Suspect Charged in West Broad Street Double Shooting, Homicide Victim Identified

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest in the double shooting that occurred early Sunday morning and have identified the homicide victim as Dwight Wright, 31, of Richmond.

Yesterday, officers with First Precinct’s Focus Mission Team arrested Aaron Marcus, 18, of Richmond. He has been charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges are pending. His booking photo is attached.

On Sunday at approximately 3:22 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of West Broad Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Wright, with an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive on a sidewalk. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers were also notified of an adult male with apparent gunshot wounds who had been transported by personal vehicle to a local hospital. Detectives determined that he was also involved in the shooting on West Broad Street that followed an altercation.

West Broad Street Death Investigation

At approximately 3:22 a.m., officers were called to the 300 block of West Broad Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found an adult male down and unresponsive in the roadway of West Broad Street. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Officers were notified another adult male with apparent gunshot wounds was transported by personal vehicle to a local hospital. His injuries are considered to be life threatening.

Detectives are investigating and have determined both individuals were injured in the shooting incident that occurred in the 300 block of West Broad Street following an altercation. West Broad Street is closed in both directions to accommodate the investigation.

The investigation continues.

Víctima de homicidio en Broad Rock Boulevard identificado; tercera escena de crimen confirmada

Los detectives del Departamento de Policía de Richmond han identificado oficialmente a la víctima del homicidio ocurrido en Broad Rock Boulevard el miércoles como Marvin Ramos-Hernández, de 39 años, habitante de North Chesterfield.

Los detectives han acusado a dos individuos, Yonathan Zelaya Beltrán, de 25 años, habitante de Richmond y Ronaldy Monterroso, de 18 años, habitante de North Chesterfield por un asalto ocurrido en la misma zona y los detectives están trabajando para determinar cargos por el asalto y homicidio del Sr. Ramos-Hernández perpetrado unos minutos después. Además, un tercer sitio ha sido identificado donde se sospecha que los mismos dos individuos intentaron realizar otro asalto.

Ambos hombres han sido acusados de asalto a mano armada y uso de armas de fuego durante la comisión de un delito grave. Otros cargos adicionales están pendientes. Sus fotos de fichaje están adjuntas.

El miércoles 7 de febrero a las 10:20 a.m., agentes respondieron a un llamado en la cuadra del 2200 de Broad Rock Boulevard por una denuncia de asalto. Cuando llegaron los agentes, un empleado del negocio les informó que habían sido asaltados por un hombre desconocido, quien los amenazó con un arma, la cual disparó una vez en la tienda; luego se llevó dinero en efectivo y huyó en una camioneta. Nadie resultó herido en este incidente.

Aproximadamente a las 10:30 a.m., los agentes respondieron a un segundo llamado por una denuncia de asalto y tiroteo en un local en la cuadra del 3000 de Broad Rock Boulevard. Al llegar, los agentes encontraron a un hombre tendido en el suelo e inconsciente, víctima de una aparente herida de bala. La persona fue declarada muerta en la escena del crimen.

Los detectives han determinado que los sospechosos luego intentaron asaltar un negocio en la cuadra del 3300 del Broad Rock Boulevard antes de fugarse en la camioneta. No hubo heridos en este tercer establecimiento. El Departamento de Policía de Richmond no fue avisado de inmediato del incidente en la cuadra 3300.

Victim Identified in Broad Rock Boulevard Homicide, Third Crime Scene Identified

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Broad Rock Boulevard yesterday as Marvin Ramos-Hernandez, 39, of North Chesterfield.

Detectives have charged two individuals, Yonathan Zelaya Beltran, 25, of Richmond and Ronaldy Monterroso, 18, of North Chesterfield for a nearby robbery and detectives are working to determine charges for the robbery and homicide of Ramos-Hernandez that occurred a few minutes later. Detectives have also identified a third location that the two individuals are suspected of attempting to rob.

Both have been charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of the felony. Additional charges are pending. Their booking photos are attached.

Yesterday at approximately 10:20 a.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of a robbery. Officers arrived and an employee of the business reported they were robbed by an unknown male who brandished a firearm, fired a gunshot in the shop and robbed them of cash before fleeing in an SUV. There were no injuries.

At approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were called to a business in the 3000 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of a robbery and a shooting at the location. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Ramos-Hernandez, down and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have determined the suspects then attempted to rob a business in the 3300 block of Broad Rock Boulevard before fleeing the area in the SUV. There were no injuries in the third location. The RPD was not immediately made aware of the incident in the 3300 block.

Detectives investigated the first two incidents and determined they were related. Detectives were able to identify the vehicle the two suspects were operating and used technology, in part, to locate the possible whereabouts of the SUV. Just 45 minutes following the homicide, Second Precinct officers were able to observe and stop the vehicle and arrest the two suspects.

Richmond Police detectives have charged two individuals for robbery for an incident on Broad Rock Boulevard today and detectives are working to determine charges for the same two suspects for the robbery and homicide that occurred a few minutes later on Broad Rock Boulevard.

Today at approximately 10:30 a.m., officers were called to a business in the 3000 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for the report of a stolen item and a person injured. Officers were responding when the call was clarified to be a robbery and a shooting at the location.

Officers arrived and found an adult male staff member of the business down and unresponsive, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives arrived and interviewed several possible witnesses who were in the business at the time of the shooting. The investigation continues.

Driver Charged after Pedestrian Struck in Hit and Run

Driver Charged after Pedestrian Struck in Hit and Run

Richmond Police has charged the driver following a hit and run collision which injured a pedestrian this morning.

At approximately 8:45 a.m., officers were called to the intersection of West Broad and North Lombardy streets for the report of a pedestrian struck.

Officers arrived and located an adult female who had been struck by a vehicle, a pickup truck, which had left the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for injuries that are considered to be life threatening.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team responded. Investigators determined the pedestrian was crossing West Broad Street southbound in the crosswalk when the driver, Garland Childress, 71, of Sandston, disregarded the red traffic signal, struck the pedestrian, and fled the scene without rendering aid. Investigators located Childress a short time later and he was arrested and charged with felony hit and run. Additional charges are pending.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide on Ambrose Street last night as Devaugh Brown, 31, of Richmond.                                      

At approximately 8:02 pm., officers were called to the 2300 block of Ambrose Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male, Brown, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital with life threatening injuries. He was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide on Walmsley Boulevard that occurred on Saturday as Augusto Avalos, 23, of Richmond.                                      

At approximately 11:25 p.m., February 3, officers were called to the 3000 block of Walmsley Boulevard for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Avalos, inside of a residence down on the floor unresponsive. He had sustained a stab wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Death Investigation following Missing Man Found

Death Investigation following Missing Man Found

Following an extensive search by Richmond Police, community groups and family members, the subject of an RPD missing person advisory from last month has been found in a wooded area near Cofer Road.

Salvador Vitervo Ortiz, 31, was reported missing by family members after last being seen on Friday, January 19. His family was concerned after he was last seen walking barefoot in the 3100 block of Richmond Highway that night. The Richmond Police Department searched the area near Richmond Highway, sent advisories to media and the public in English and Spanish and posted the information to social media.

Yesterday, family members found Ortiz in a wooded area in the 2700 block of Cofer Road. They contacted RPD officers who secured the area. The Richmond Ambulance Authority pronounced him dead at the scene. RPD detectives are investigating. There are no signs of foul play.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Vale Street last month as Make’L Linton, 20, of Richmond.

At approximately 10:44 p.m., on Tuesday, January 16, officers were called to the 400 block of Vale Street for the report of a person down in the roadway. Officers arrived and found a male, Linton, down and unresponsive at the intersection of Vale Street and Richmond Henrico Turnpike. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.
