Victim Identified in Richmond Highway Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Richmond Highway on Thursday as Ralshief Richardson, 19, of Richmond.

Yesterday, at approximately 7:28 a.m., officers were called to the 00 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located a male down and unresponsive on the pavement at the rear door of a GRTC bus. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GRTC bus was stopped at a bus stop in the southbound right lane of Richmond Highway and detectives have determined the victim was preparing to board the bus at the time he was shot.

Detectives canvassed the area to interview witnesses and are collecting video from nearby businesses and video from the GRTC bus cameras. Detectives have determined there were passengers on the bus at the time of the shooting who may have left the area. Detectives ask those passengers to contact police with any information they may have on the shooting.

The southbound lanes of Richmond Highway were closed to accommodate the investigation.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Richmond Highway Death Investigation

At approximately 7:28 a.m., officers were called to the 00 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located a male down and unresponsive on the pavement at the rear door of a GRTC bus. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GRTC bus was stopped at a bus stop in the southbound right lane of Richmond Highway and detectives have determined the victim was preparing to board the bus at the time he was shot.

Detectives canvassed the area to interview witnesses and are collecting video from nearby businesses and video from the GRTC bus cameras. Detectives have determined there were passengers on the bus at the time of the shooting that may have left the area. Detectives ask those passengers to contact police with any information they may have on the shooting.

Run Richmond 16.19 Road Closures and No Parking Zones

September 27, 2023

Run Richmond 16.19, a cultural running event, will bring changes to traffic with numerous road closures and “No Parking” zones in effect on Saturday, September 30.

The running event will close streets including the 14th Street (Mayo) Bridge, portions of East Main Street, several streets in Shockoe Bottom, the T. Tyler Potterfield footbridge to Brown’s Island and several roads from Tredegar Street to Jackson Ward.

“No Parking” zones will go into effect in the early morning hours of Saturday with road closures beginning at 6 a.m. Please note the site of the start and finish of the event, East Byrd Street, will close to traffic at 4 a.m. Roads will re-open and parking will again be permitted at approximately 1 p.m.

Richmond Kickers to Join Community Pop-Up Series in Southwood

WHAT:     Come to the latest Community Pop-Up event on Thursday with special guests – members of the Richmond Kickers!

Several players and staff from the popular soccer club will be in attendance early Thursday evening in the Southwood neighborhood as the collaboration with city agencies, non-profit organizations and federal law enforcement partners continues to bring fun activities and chances for agency stakeholders to engage with the public.

This event will be slightly different – with the Richmond Kickers on hand to give skills and training tips to the youth in attendance! The Richmond Kickers continue to be leaders in community engagement in Richmond and the RPD is thrilled with their participation on Thursday!

In these events held throughout the year, neighborhood residents are invited to connect to free family assistance and services and meet bi-lingual members of the community. Suspect Sought for Double Shooting

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male in the attached photos who is a suspect in a double shooting that occurred earlier this month.

On Wednesday, September 6, at approximately 9:55 a.m., officers were called to the 2400 block of Whitcomb Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and located two adult males on the sidewalk who had suffered gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening.

Major Crimes detectives are investigating and have determined the male in the photos is a possible suspect in these shootings and are seeking information to identify him.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred on Mechanicsville Turnpike on Tuesday as Terrell Hancock, 24, of Chesterfield.

On Tuesday at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers responded to the sound of gunfire in the 1500 block of Mechanicsville Turnpike. Once on scene, officers located an adult male, Hancock, down and unresponsive on a walkway at the front of a building. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest Made, Victim Identified in Drewry Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have made an arrest in the homicide that occurred on Drewry Street on Saturday and have identified the victim as Lavon Page, 62, of Richmond.

On Saturday at approximately 3:01 p.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Drewry Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Page, down and unresponsive in a yard of a residence. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives arrested Lionel White, Jr., 55, of Richmond. He has been charged with second degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

Suspects Sought for Armed Robbery

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the two males, one of which is clearly visible in the attached surveillance photos, who are suspects in an armed robbery earlier this month.

On Saturday, September 9, at approximately 10:35 p.m., officers were called to the 1200 block of North 27th Street, for the report of an armed robbery. Officers arrived and located an adult male who reported he was approached outside his home by two unknown males who were brandishing firearms. The suspects stole a firearm, a wallet and other items before fleeing. There were no injuries.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide that occurred last night on Willoughby Court as 19-year-old Malachi Dunbar of Richmond.


Richmond Police Department Major Crimes detectives are actively investigating this homicide.

 

At approximately 6:45 p.m., Richmond Police officers responded to the 2100 block of Willoughby Court for the report of a person shot. Once on scene, officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound. The man was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injury.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide in an apartment on Phaup Street last night as Antione Christian, 23, of Richmond.

At approximately 9:39 p.m., officers were called to the 2100 block of Phaup Street for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Christian, in an apartment down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound. Life-saving measures were attempted by officers and units of the Richmond Ambulance Authority but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

UPDATE: Missing Child Found Safe

The child that had been the subject of a missing person’s search has been found safe and is home.

Due to confusion by the guardian, Unique Samuels was reported missing late last night. Richmond Police launched a massive effort to find Samuels, including door-to-door requests for information, grid searches, the operation of the Metro Richmond Air Unit, social media posts and the printing, distribution and posting of a missing person flier. Early this afternoon, Samuels returned home safely and was met by RPD officers at his residence.

The department thanks the public and the media partners for sharing the missing person information and social media posts regarding the search.

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s assistance in locating a 10-year-old male child that has been missing since Friday afternoon.

Unique Samuels, 10, was last seen at approximately 4 p.m. near the area of West Hill and St. James streets in the Gilpin Court neighborhood. Samuels lives nearby.

Suspect Sought for Sexual Assault at Hospital

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male in the attached photos who is a suspect in a sexual battery that occurred last week.

On Saturday, at approximately 7 a.m., officers were called to Chippenham Hospital, located in the 7100 block of Jahnke Road, for the report of an assault. Officers arrived and located a female employee who reported the male in the photo, captured on surveillance camera, had sexually assaulted her in an elevator. Following the assault, the suspect left the area, possibly boarding a GRTC bus.

He is described as 35-40 years of age, 5’10”-6’ tall and weighing approximately 200 pounds.

Driver Identified in Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the driver involved in the fatal single-vehicle crash on Hull Street on Sunday as Jairo Vargas, 31, of Chester.

At approximately 2:01 a.m., officers were called to the 00 block of Hull Street for the report of a vehicle crash. Officers arrived and found a single vehicle that had been traveling southbound across the 14th Street Bridge before leaving the roadway and colliding with an embankment. Vargas, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene by a member of the Richmond Fire Department EMT unit.

Robbery and Death Investigation on Richmond Highway

Richmond Police detectives have made two arrests in the robbery and shooting incident that occurred last week in a parking lot on Richmond Highway and have identified the female who died.

At approximately 8:21 p.m. on Wednesday, August 30, officers were called to a parking lot of a business in the 2900 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult female, Deasha Jones, 24, of Hopewell, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where, two days later, she succumbed to her injury.

Later on Wednesday evening, August 30, two adult males self-transported to a local hospital, both with apparent gunshot wounds. Their injuries were considered life threatening. Detectives have determined both were involved in an attempted robbery at the parking lot, along with Deasha Jones. Jeremiah Vaughn, 20, of Hopewell and Devon Jones, 20, of Hopewell, have each been charged with attempted murder, aggravated robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony x2. A booking photo of Vaughn is attached. A booking photo of Devon Jones is not yet available.

The victim of the robbery attempt, not on scene when officers arrived, was not injured.

This morning, at approximately 8:36 a.m., officers responded to the 900 block of Oliver Hill Way for the report of a shooting. Once on scene officers located one adult male with an apparent gunshot wound. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.

 

Detectives are not looking for any suspects at this time.
