Bicycle Theft

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to find a bicycle that was stolen this morning.

At approximately 9 a.m., three men stole the bicycle in the attached photo from a corporate tent on East Broad Street near the recent bike race finish line area.

The bicycle is a Kona ‘Zone Road Bike’ black, white and orange in color. The number ‘7’ is displayed on the top.

The suspects were described as Latino males. One of the men carried the bicycle as the three men walked east along East Broad Street.

Arrest Made in Bike Theft

Richmond Police detectives have arrested Ronald Henderson, 52, of the 900 block of Travis Drive, Lawrenceville, VA for stealing a bicycle used by a competitor in the UCI Road World Championships. The bicycle was taken from the Marriott Hotel Thursday evening when it was left unattended.

Acting on a tip, RPD detectives located Henderson yesterday afternoon at the corner of 5th and East Broad Streets. At about the same time, using information provided by the tipster, RPD detectives also located the stolen bicycle.

“We are pleased we were able to find the bicycle in good working order and return it to the UCI team for use in this week’s competition,” said RPD Chief Alfred Durham. “I would like to thank the person who came forward with the information that allowed detectives to find the bicycle so quickly and make the arrest.”

Henderson has been charged with Grand Larceny and Obtaining Money under False Pretenses, both felonies. He was also charged with Possession of Marijuana, a misdemeanor.

UCI Traffic Advisory and Information

With the arrival of the UCI Road World Championships this weekend come numerous temporary road closures and limited parking areas in the city and surrounding counties. The Richmond Police Department wants ensure citizens are aware and prepared to navigate around the race routes.

A comprehensive resource, navigate.richmond2015.com, provides information on everything from race routes and transportation to where to watch the race. Course maps complete with street closures are available on the site as well as a Roads Guide and Parking Guide.


No parking areas along Broad Street and Monument Avenue are already being enforced, and others will go into effect soon. Street closures will also change day-to-day as different races occur. Citizens are encouraged to check the Navigate Richmond 2015 website regularly to stay up to date on the traffic impacts for each day.

Missing Woman Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing woman, Barbara A. Johnson. Johnson, 60, was last seen on Sept. 6 at VCU Medical Center, located at 401 N. 12th Street.

Johnson may be suffering from emotional distress. Johnson is a 5-foot, 5-inch tall, black female weighing approximately 120 pounds with black hair.

Suspect Sought in Shooting at Midlothian Turnpike Hotel

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the men in the attached photos who are suspects in a shooting that took place last month on Midlothian Turnpike.

Shortly before 11 p.m. on August 28, officers responded to a hotel in the 6600 block of Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, officers encountered the victim who was attempting to drive away in his vehicle.

Detectives believe the incident began with an altercation, which occurred during an attempted robbery. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries.

Both suspects are described as adult black males, 5’8”-6’ tall with medium to large builds.

Suspect Sought in Gas Station Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photo, who is a suspect in a robbery that occurred Saturday.

At approximately 6:34 a.m. on Sept. 12, a man entered the Uppy’s Exxon gas station in the 1700 block of East Broad Street, displayed the butt of a handgun and demanded money from an employee. After the clerk opened the register drawer, the man took cash from the till. He fled on foot toward the area of 18th and Broad streets.

The suspect is described as a 5-foot, 4-inch tall, black male weighing approximately 130 lbs., who wore a red jacket, red shorts with a white stripe down the side and red and white tennis shoes at the time of the incident.

Arrest Made in Accommodation Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest for Wednesday’s homicides on Accommodation Street.

Detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, arrested Devon J. Terry, 23, of the 1400 block of Coalter Street, in Temple Mills, Maryland. Terry was arrested yesterday morning without incident.

Terry has been charged with voluntary manslaughter. His photo will be released when it is available.

Around 11:42 a.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the 2100 block of Accommodation Street for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found Jawaun L. Hargrove, 33, of the 1700 block of North 19th Street and Anthony D. Addison, 21, of the 2100 block of Accommodation Street, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital where they died.

Detectives believe an argument led to the shootings. The investigation continues, however, detectives are not currently looking for other suspects.

Suspect Sought in Hotel Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the male in the photo and video (video sent separately) who is a suspect in a robbery last night.

At approximately 11:23 p.m., a male suspect entered the lobby of the Days Inn hotel, located at 6910 Midlothian Turnpike, with his hand in a bag suggesting he had a firearm, and robbed an employee of cash. There were no injuries.

The suspect fled on foot. He is described as a black male, 35-40 years of age, six feet tall weighing approximately 160 pounds. He wore a black hoodie, shorts and black shoes.

Victims Identified in Accommodation Street Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victims of a homicide that occurred yesterday on Accommodation Street.


Around 11:42 a.m. yesterday, officers were called to the 2100 block of Accommodation Street for a report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found Jawaun L. Hargrove, 33, of the 1700 block of North 19th Street and Anthony D. Addison, 21, of the 2100 block of Accommodation Street, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. They were transported to a local hospital where they died.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives are making good progress in the investigation thanks to tips received from the community.

Suspect Sought in Parking Lot Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photo who is a suspect in a robbery that occurred Saturday morning.


At approximately 2:20 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 5, officers were called to the 1800 block of East Cary Street for the report of a robbery.

A male reported that he was walking in a parking lot at the corner of South 18th and East Cary streets when he was robbed by two males with a handgun.

The suspects left the area in a gold-colored Toyota Camry. There were no injuries.

A credit card from the robbery was used soon after the incident in a restaurant in Chesterfield County. The photo shows the person who used the card.

Third Avenue Fatality Identified

The Richmond Police Department has identified the person fatally injured yesterday on Third Avenue as Joseph L. Terry, 24, of the 1100 block of St. Paul Street.

At approximately 10:04 a.m., officers were called to the 2200 block of Third Avenue for a report of a person down. At that location they discovered two males injured outside a residence.

Terry was transported to a local hospital with a stab wound that was considered life threatening. He died at the hospital.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives believe the incident resulted from an attempted home invasion.

Detectives are investigating and have classified this case as a death investigation. Detectives have consulted with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office and, at this time, no charges have been filed.

Body Found in Powhite Creek


September 4, 2015

Richmond Police detectives are conducting a death investigation related to a body found in Powhite Creek earlier this evening.

At approximately 4:58 p.m., RPD officers were called to the 6200 block of Forest Hill Avenue for a report of a person down. When officers arrived they found a body in the water.

Richmond Police worked with the Richmond Fire Department to recover the body from the creek. Preliminary investigation revealed the individual appears to be an adult. No other identifying details are available at this time.

Community Walk in Church Hill

WHAT:                       Richmond Police Department Community Walk

WHERE:                    28th and U Streets

BACKGROUND:     Chief Alfred Durham will lead his Command Staff on a walk this evening in the Church Hill North neighborhood. During the walk the officers will speak with members of the community about safety concerns they may have and what they’d like to see more of from the Richmond Police Department.

Sector 111 Lt. Jeremy Sayles is pleased with a 15% drop in violent crime and a 14% drop in property crime so far this year. “The numbers show we are heading in a positive direction,” said Lt. Sayles. “We are still counting on help from the residents of Church Hill North so we can continue the downward trend.”

Lt. Sayles has prepared a handout of crime prevention tips that the officers will be giving to everyone they meet.

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted on a monthly basis by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Suspect Sought in Commercial Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photo, who is a suspect in a robbery that occurred last week.

At approximately 10:29 a.m. on August 28, a black male entered the Loan Max located in the 4200 block of West Broad Street. He brandished a knife and demanded money from an employee.

The suspect left the business in an older model tan Ford Taurus.
