Suspect Sought in Restaurant Burglary

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the photo who is a suspect in a restaurant burglary that occurred last week.

At approximately 5:03 a.m. on Saturday, February 23, officers were called to a restaurant in the 2800 block of East Broad Street for the report of a burglary. Officers arrived and found the front door of the business forced open. A security video from the restaurant shows a male entering the business and stealing beer and bottles of liquor before exiting through a side door.

The suspect fled on foot.

Pedestrian Identified in Fatal West Broad Street Collision

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team has identified the pedestrian of yesterday’s fatal collision on West Broad Street as
Luther A. Waller, Jr., 67, of no known address.

At approximately 11:45 a.m., officers were called to the 3100 block of West Broad Street for the report of a male struck by a vehicle. Officers arrived and found Waller down and injured in the roadway median after being struck by an eastbound vehicle. He was transported to a local hospital where, shortly after, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team responded and started their investigation. Detectives believe a vehicle, with an adult female operator and sole occupant, was traveling eastbound when Waller walked into the left lane of the eastbound lanes and was struck by the vehicle, which remained on the scene.

At this time, no charges have been placed. The investigation continues.

Arrest Made in Decatur Street Crash

The Richmond Police Department has arrested
Harvey Williams, 20, of the 1200 block of Nelson Street on charges related to a crash on Decatur Street yesterday morning.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, officers initiated a traffic stop at E 30th Street and Burfoot Street in reference to a stolen vehicle out of the city.  After the officers activated their emergency equipment, the suspect vehicle failed to stop. 

A short distance later, the suspect vehicle disregarded a stop sign at Decatur Street and East Broad Rock Road and was struck by another vehicle.  The collision caused the suspect vehicle to flip off the road and hit the front porch of a home in the 3100 block of Decatur Street. 

All four occupants of the suspect vehicle were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The three passengers were juveniles and one of them originally suffered life-threatening injuries.  The status of those injuries has since changed to non-life threatening. 

Williams, the driver, was also taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.  Officers found narcotics on his person.  Williams was charged with Possession of Crack with Intent, three counts of Felony Child Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, and Felony Eluding.  Additional charges are pending, including charges for the motor vehicle theft.

The investigation is ongoing.

Victim Identified in Broad Rock Boulevard Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last week’s homicide on Broad Rock Boulevard as Edwin D. Gonzales-Urbina, 27, of the 600 block of Warwick Road.

At approximately 10:54 pm on Thursday, February 14, officers received a call after Gonzales-Urbina arrived at a local hospital suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Detectives determined the shooting incident occurred in the 3100 block of Broad Rock Boulevard. Gonzales-Urbina succumbed to his injuries several hours later.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Vehicle Sought in Burglary

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the vehicle in the attached photo which was possibly involved in a burglary earlier this month.

The four-door Jeep, silver in color, has a hard top and distinctive ‘family crest-style’ decals on each of the front doors.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday, February 1, officers were called to the 300 block of West Marshall Street for the report of a burglary. During the course of the investigation, detectives identified the vehicle in the photo as possibly having been used in the crime.

Victim Identified in Fairmount Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last week’s homicide on Fairmount Avenue as Curtison J. Murray, 29, of the 2500 block of Noel Street.

At approximately 11:37 p.m. on Thursday, February 14, officers received a call for a person shot in the 1200 block of North 19th Street. When police arrived, they located an adult male suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Shortly after, officers located Curtison Murray in an alley in the 1900 block of Fairmount Avenue. Murray was pronounced at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

UPDATE: Missing Richmond Man Found in Texas

A missing Richmond man, David T. Sines, who was last seen several weeks ago in Richmond was located in Dallas, Texas yesterday.

Sines, 66, of the 1000 block of West 48th Street, last reported to his workplace in Scott’s Addition on Thursday, February 7. Sines is known to drive a green 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck with Texas license plate JDG9591. He also is known to frequent the Forest Hill area.


Sines is safe and has been reunited with friends.

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in reuniting a missing man with family and friends.
David T. Sines was last seen Thursday, February 7.

Sines, 66, of the 1000 block of West 48th Street, last reported to his workplace in Scott’s Addition on Thursday, February 7. Sines is known to drive a green 1997 Chevrolet pickup truck with Texas license plate JDG9591. He also is known to frequent the Forest Hill area.

It is unknown what Sines was last wearing, but is usually wearing glasses and work boots. Sines is approximately 6’2” tall and weighs approximately 190 pounds. He has blue eyes, gray hair, and walks with a limp.

Person of Interest Sought in Jackson Ward Wallet Theft

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify a person of interest in a recent wallet theft in Jackson Ward.

Between 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 2 and 10 a.m. on Monday, February 4, an unknown suspect stole the victim’s wallet from her bedroom.  The victim stated she had a party at her residence in the 100 block of West Leigh Street on that Saturday, but she did not realize her wallet was missing until Monday.

The person of interest then used the victim’s credit card at the Village Cafe, located on West Grace Street.

RPD Invites Media to Badging of New Mounted Unit Member

WHAT:                   Badging ceremony for new member of the RPD Mounted Unit

WHERE:                 RPD Mounted Unit Stables – 1201 Brook Road

BACKGROUND:     The Richmond Police Department would like to invite the media to the badging of Aslan, the newest member of the Mounted Unit.  This comes after Rio, the former RPD Mounted Unit leader, retired back in December.

                                Aslan is a 3 ½ year old Percheron/Thoroughbred Cross horse from Asbury University, located outside Lexington, Kentucky.  Two officers of the RPD Mounted Unit went to Asbury University in late November and after testing a few horses, they agreed Aslan would make a good fit. 

                                “Since I am the trainer for the unit, I have ridden and tested Aslan on the street,” said Officer Amanda Acuff, RPD Mounted Unit.  “He has performed very well, especially for a young horse.”
                             
                                 Before Aslan receives his badge on Friday, officers plan on running him through an obstacle course to showcase some of his skills and abilities.  Harold Rainwater, the director of the Asbury Equine Program, will be present.  The student trainer who worked with Aslan will also be there.

Arrest Made in Midlothian Turnpike Fatal Hit & Run

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in a fatal hit and run that occurred last month on Midlothian Turnpike.

Sherica D. Nelson, 42, of the 5500 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, Henrico has been charged with felony hit and run resulting in death.

At approximately 5:48 a.m., on Tuesday, January 1, Sherica Nelson was operating a vehicle westbound on Midlothian Turnpike when the vehicle struck a female pedestrian, a 17-year-old juvenile, who was in the roadway. The vehicle continued westbound on Midlothian Turnpike.

The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries. The name of the juvenile has not been released by investigators, per Virginia code.

Community Walk in the Fan Neighborhood

WHERE:                    Allen Avenue & Floyd Avenue 

BACKGROUND:     Interim Chief William Smith, Command Staff and other Richmond Police Department officers will walk at 5:00 p.m. today through the Fan neighborhood. During the walk, officers will speak with community members about safety concerns they may have and what they would like to see from the Richmond Police Department.

                                Sector 313 Lt. Bill Woo said the area, like many in the city of Richmond, has seen an increase in property crimes such as theft from motor vehicles and motor vehicle theft.

                                 “We want to provide prevention tips and make sure we stay connected with the neighborhood and make them feel safe, Lt. Woo said. “

This event is the latest in a series of walks conducted by the Richmond Police Department in neighborhoods throughout the city.

Members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Suspect Sought in Residential Burglary

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the male suspect in the attached photos who broke into a home on Hull Street Road last month.

Sometime between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday, January 11, an unknown male broke into a home in the 6100 block of Hull Street Road. The suspect stole multiple items from the residence, including jewelry.

Subject Identified in West Cary Street Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department has identified the male who was the subject of yesterday’s death investigation as
Joseph A. Harris III, 43, of the 300 block of East Jerald Street, Henrico.

Saturday at approximately 7:43 a.m., officers were called to the 2000 block of West Cary Street for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found Harris down and unresponsive in a rear parking lot of an apartment building. He had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

While this investigation continues, detectives do not believe Harris was involved in a random act and detectives are not seeking any other suspects at this time.

The Richmond Police Department is conducting a death investigation after a male was found down and unresponsive this morning in the Fan neighborhood.

At approximately 7:43 a.m., officers were called to the 2000 block of West Cary Street for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found a male in a rear parking lot of an apartment building who had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Additional Charges in Westower Drive Homicide

February 1, 2019

Laura Holloman, 34, of the 5500 block of Westower Drive,
is facing additional charges related to a homicide that occurred last week.

At approximately 11:59 a.m. on Tuesday, January 22, officers were called to the 5500 block of Westower Drive for a welfare check. They arrived and found Johnathan R. Holloman deceased inside his home. 

The victim’s wife, Laura Holloman, has been charged with Murder and Use of a Cutting Instrument in the Commission of a Felony.  She was previously held on three counts of Cruelty and Injuries to Children.  Her booking photo is attached.
