Foxwood Apartments Homicide Victim Identified



January 30, 2017

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last night’s homicide as Joseph Boyle, 31, of the 4900 block of Jacobs Glenn Drive, Chesterfield.

At approximately 9:04 p.m., Sunday, January 29, RPD officers responded to a report of shots fired in the Foxwood Apartments complex, followed by a vehicle crash on Snead Road. Officers located an SUV approximately 100 yards east of the entrance to the complex, in the 5000 block of Snead Road. It had left the roadway and struck a tree. Boyle was in the driver’s seat. He had been shot.

Boyle was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Forestview School Drive Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is conducting a death investigation into a fatal shooting that occurred last night on the city’s south side.

At approximately 10:47 p.m., Sunday, January 29, RPD officers responded to a report of a gunshot victim who had arrived at Chippenham Hospital. The victim, Mikequan Blakey, 21, of the 3200 block of Ransom Hills Road, Chesterfield was pronounced dead at 10:55 p.m.

A report minutes earlier of random gunfire in the 1000 block of Forestview School Drive helped officers identify the crime scene where the shooting took place.

Griffin Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a homicide that occurred early this morning on the city’s north side.

At approximately 1:01 a.m., several calls were received reporting random gunfire near the intersection of W. Ladies Mile Road and Griffin Avenue. RPD officers responded and located a gold Ford Taurus parked in the 3100 block of Griffin Avenue with the body of an adult, black female in the driver’s seat. She had been shot.

The victim has been identified as Yasheka D. Dehart, 32, no permanent address in Richmond.

RPD detectives canvassed the neighborhood and spoke with several people who reported hearing gunshots.

Suspect Sought in Title Max Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the attached photos who robbed a business on East Belt Boulevard.

Shortly after 6:39 p.m. yesterday, an adult male entered the Title Max at 20 East Belt Blvd., placed his hand in front of his waistband and implied he was armed with a weapon. As he approached the employees, he demanded they open their cash drawers. The employees complied and he took money from both of their cash trays. He then tells the employees, “Don’t call the cops if you know what’s best for you,” and flees the scene. He was last seen going northbound on Belt Boulevard.

The suspect is described as a black male with a dark complexion and dark, braided hair. He has a slim build, approximately 5’6 to 5’8 in height, and scruffy facial hair. At the time, he was wearing a blue denim shirt, red pants, a gold wedding band and shoes with an American flag pattern.

Suspect Sought in Quick N Easy Attempted Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspects who attempted to break into a convenience store near Malvern and West Broad Street.

Shortly before 9 a.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, officers were called to the Quick N Easy in the 4100 block of Broad Street for an attempted robbery. Surveillance video was presented to officers showing two suspects at around 3:22 a.m. that morning sneaking behind a propane tank.

One of the suspects emerged from behind the propane tank, walked in front of the convenience store door, and began to mule kick the glass in an attempt to make entry into the business. When the attempted force was unsuccessful, the second suspect then walked out and pulled out a hammer striking the door several times. When the second suspect’s attempt was also unsuccessful, they fled eastbound toward West Broad Street.

The suspects are described as:
  • Suspect 1: Black male, approximately 6’0” and wearing glasses, a blue raincoat with a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark knit hat, dark gray pants, and black shoes. He appeared older than suspect 2.
  • Suspect 2: Black male, approximately 5’8 in height and a black hooded sweatshirt, a dark knit hat, blue jeans, dark-colored shoes and a black backpack containing a hammer.

Maryland Avenue Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting, apparently self-inflicted, that occurred this morning at a residence in the 3300 block of Maryland Avenue while RPD officers were serving a search warrant.

The deceased has been identified as Corey L. Smith, 37, of the 4300 block of Old Brook Road
The shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m., as RPD officers were serving a search warrant for narcotics. After officers entered the residence they heard a muffled “pop” sound come from behind the closed door of an upstairs bedroom.  They entered the room and located Smith on the floor suffering from a gunshot wound. A weapon was located nearby.

Officers called for an ambulance. Smith was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead at 9:02. The Virginia Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death.
At no time did any RPD officer discharge a weapon.

A full investigation is being conducted by the RPD Major Crimes Division in cooperation with the RPD Internal Affairs Office. All weapons carried by the officers have been inspected to confirm that none were fired. In addition, each officer was interviewed separately. A report is being prepared and will be reviewed by Chief Alfred Durham.
“This is how we do it,” said Chief Alfred Durham. “We make sure we know all the facts of what happened to make certain that all RPD protocols for serving search warrants were followed. On behalf of the Richmond Police Department, I’d like to offer my condolences to Mr. Smith’s family and loved ones.”

Victim Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in the homicide which occurred this morning on Chamberlayne Avenue and is asking for the public’s help as they investigate.

Shortly after 8 a.m. this morning, police were called to the 4200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for report of a person shot. When police arrived, they found Jerode R. Greene, 24, last known address in the 200 block of Winston St., Henrico, suffering from a gunshot wound.


Greene was transported to a local hospital where at 8:46 a.m., he was pronounced dead. A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
Detectives with the Major Crimes Division are investigating the incident as a homicide and continue to gather additional information.

“It is believed there were multiple witnesses in the area at the time, including those who were traveling to work or school,” said Det. Victoria Griffith-Matko. “We urge anyone who has any information to come forward. Any tip can help us make an arrest and take these individuals off the street.”

Domestic Violence Suspect Arrested

Marvin L. Brown, 23, of the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Ave, was arrested last night by Richmond Police officers on charges stemming from a domestic assault earlier this month.

Brown has been charged with Felony Assault and Strangulation for attacking his girlfriend Monday, January 9 at a residence in the 4200 block of Old Brook Road. The victim is six months pregnant with his child. She was treated for numerous non-life threatening injuries.

Brown was taken into custody following a traffic stop in the 4100 block of Hull Street Road at approximately 9:04 p.m., Tuesday, January 24.

Suspect Arrested in West Cary Street Arson


January 25, 2017
A woman was arrested yesterday in connection to a fire that occurred near the Fan district.

Around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, the Richmond Fire Department responded to a call for a fire in the 2200 block of West Cary Street. Firefighters arrived in less than two minutes and found the second floor of the home engulfed in flames. Officers from the Richmond Police Department responded to assist.
No injuries were reported however, the home sustained significant fire damage. Fire investigators found sufficient evidence the fire was started intentionally.

Amanda G. Golden, 29, of the 2200 block of West Cary Street, has been arrested and charged with arson of an occupied building. She is currently being held without bond at the Richmond Justice Center.

Suspect Sought in Chippenham Hospital Robbery

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individuals who are suspects in a robbery that occurred on early this week at Chippenham Hospital.
Shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 23, police were called to Chippenham Hospital at 7101 Jahnke Rd. for a report of a robbery. The victim stated as she was walking to her vehicle inside of the hospital parking garage near the emergency room, she was approached from behind by an unknown male.

As the victim attempted to enter her vehicle, the suspect tapped her on the back. She then turned around and began to scream. She and the suspect then began to struggle for possession of the keys as he repeatedly told her, “Give me your keys,” and “Don’t scream!” He eventually gained possession of the keys and pushed the victim to the ground where she sustained a non-life threatening injury.
The suspect attempted to drive the vehicle away, however he could not figure out how to use the key. As the victim continued to scream, the suspect fled the scene. He was last seen leaving the parking garage walking toward the emergency room.

The suspect is described as a black male with short dark hair who is approximately 5`4" in height with an average build. At the time, he was wearing a dark blue jacket with a white hoodie, a green shirt, blue jeans, and tan boots. He was last seen leaving the hospital with an unknown black female with medium length dark hair in a ponytail. She is approximately 5’2” in height with a large build. At the time, she was wearing a green jacket with brown pants or leggings, multi-colored socks and dark shoes.

BACKGROUND:     Richmond Mayor Levar M. Stoney, RPD Chief Alfred Durham and the Richmond Police Department are proud to welcome 16 new officers to the force and invite the public to their graduation and swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

The class includes recruits from Richmond, Virginia and several other states such as New York, Michigan, North Carolina and Florida.

An extra week was added to the traditional 30 week training schedule to accommodate an expanded curriculum that includes community engagement experiences in public housing communities, city schools and homeless shelters. The recruits will also graduate as certified bicycle officers.

As newly sworn officers, the seven females and nine males will begin eight weeks of field training this Saturday; each paired with an experienced officer.

Victim Identified, Information Sought in Barton Avenue Homicide


January 23, 2017
The Richmond Police Department has identified the person found fatally shot this morning in the city’s north side as Charles J. Lewis, III, 53, of the 2800 block of Matterhorn Drive, Henrico.

At approximately 7:03 a.m., RPD officers and other emergency personnel were called to assist with what was believed to be an adult, black male with a medical emergency sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle stopped in an alley behind the 2400 block of Barton Avenue. While attempting to resuscitate Lewis, it was discovered he had been shot. A short time later, he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Arrest Made in East 33rd Street Homicide

January 20, 2017

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a Richmond man in connection with a homicide that occurred last November in the city.

Raheem J. Davis, 20, of the 100 block of East Broad Rock Road, was arrested earlier this week in Hillside Court by the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was taken into custody without incident and charged with Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony and Malicious Wounding.

Around 9:45 p.m. on November 30, 2016, officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 100 block of East 33rd Street. Upon arrival, officers noticed a vehicle pulled onto the curb. Inside the vehicle, they located Javar Mayo, 24, of the 00 block of Lombardy Street, who was suffering from a gunshot wound. 

Mayo was taken to a local hospital for treatment of life-threatening injuries. He succumbed to those injuries that night.
 A second victim was located nearby on East 33rd Street suffering from non-life threatening gunshot wounds and taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Victim Identified, Information Sought in Brookland Park Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide in the Brookland Park neighborhood and is asking for the public’s help as they investigate.

Shortly after 6 a.m. yesterday, police were called to the 3100 block of Cliff Avenue for what was initially an in-progress burglary. When officers arrived, they found the victim, Karon E. Williams, 57, of the 3100 block of Cliff Avenue, with an apparent gunshot wound.

Police were told when a family member heard several loud noises from the back door, Ms. Williams went to investigate. As she approached the rear of the home, she was struck by a bullet which entered through a window.

Williams was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. She succumbed to those injuries at 5:14 p.m. yesterday afternoon. A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
“This was a senseless act. An innocent woman was taken from her family for no reason,” said Detective Joseph Fultz. “We need the community’s help to bring closure to Ms. Williams’ family and get this dangerous individual off of the street. Any tip, any information, anyone who saw or heard anything can help lead us to a suspect.”

Burglary Suspect Photo

Richmond Police detectives are asking the public’s assistance to identify the person in the attached photo who is a suspect in a recent burglary.

Late last month, a burglary occurred in a residence in the Fan neighborhood. Items from the home were taken – along with a vehicle from the driveway of the residence. The vehicle was soon recovered in the 2900 block of Woodcliff Avenue.

Evidence from the investigation led detectives to a restaurant drive-thru in the White Oak Village shopping center on South Laburnum Avenue in Henrico County. The attached photo shows the driver in the stolen vehicle just two hours after the burglary, which occurred at approximately 10 a.m., Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016.


The driver and another male are suspected of the burglary.

Suspect Sought in Jahnke Road Commercial Robbery

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the two men who are suspects in a robbery that occurred last week on Jahnke Road.

Shortly before 5 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, officers responded to the 7-11 at 6209 Jahnke Rd. for a report of a robbery. Police were told two suspects entered the store, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The clerk complied and the suspects took money and several cartons of cigarettes. The suspects then fled the scene firing a weapon into the air as they ran northbound on foot.
The suspects are described as:

  • Suspect 1: A black male that is approximately 5`11" to 6`0" in height and weighing 150 to 170 pounds. At the time he was wearing a green jacket with fur around the hood, blue jeans, and green shoes.
  • Suspect 2: A black male that is approximately 5`5" to 5`8" in height and weighing 160 to 170 pounds. At the time he was wearing a blue puffy jacket; a grey skull cap; black, white and red pajama-type pants; black backpack with red lettering.

March on Monument Traffic Advisory

January 13, 2017

Traffic will be affected by a public demonstration called March on Monument which will take place tomorrow afternoon along a portion of Monument Avenue.

Beginning at noon, Saturday, January 14 and lasting until approximately 4:00 p.m., the westbound lanes of Monument Avenue between N. Allen Street and the Boulevard will be closed to vehicular traffic. No parking will also be in effect along the route.

The event is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Robert E. Lee statue. After the march begins and heads west, RPD officers will reopen sections of Monument Avenue as the participants clear the area.

No Parking signs have been posted around the Lee Circle and the westbound side of Monument Avenue to the Boulevard.

Domestic Violence Suspect Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to locate a person wanted for a domestic assault.

Marvin L. Brown, 23, of the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Ave, is wanted for Felony Assault and Strangulation for attacking his girlfriend last Monday, January 9 at a residence in the 4200 block of Old Brook Road . The victim is six months pregnant with his child. She was treated for numerous non-life threatening injuries.

Brown is described as a black male, 23 years of age, 5’ 9” tall, and weighing 170 pounds. A recent photo is attached.

Detectives caution the public not to approach Brown as he may be armed.

Traffic Fatality on Huguenot Road

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a fatal car wreck yesterday afternoon on Huguenot Road, apparently caused by the driver’s medical emergency.

At approximately 3:10 p.m., January 12, a vehicle driven by Harry C. Stoddard, 70, of the 3500 block of Old Gun Road East, ran a red light at the intersection of Huguenot Road and the southbound off-ramp of Chippenham Parkway. Stoddard was exiting the Parkway at the time. His vehicle crossed through the intersection and crashed into a guardrail before coming to rest against a light pole. Stoddard was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead at 3:55 p.m. of an apparent medical condition.

A passenger in the vehicle was also transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene where they took measurements and statements from witnesses. No charges will be filed.

Pedestrian Struck & Killed on W. Broad St.

The Richmond Police Department is investigating an incident yesterday evening in which a pedestrian was struck and killed on West Broad Street.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., January 12, a vehicle travelling east in the 4800 block of W. Broad St. struck Sharon P. Parker, 44, of the 2600 block of Northumberland Ave. Parker was in the roadway at the time not far from the bus stop at the intersection of W. Broad St. and Chantilly St. She was transported to a medical center where she was pronounced dead at 10:46 p.m.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene where they took measurements and interviewed the driver, who remained until officers arrived. Charges are not anticipated unless the on-going investigation turns up new information. A final decision will be made in consultation with the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.

Suspect Arrested in East End Assault and Barricade

The Richmond Police Department has arrested one suspect in an assault and barricade that occurred earlier this week.


Around noon on Tuesday, Jan. 10, police were called to the 2200 block of North 29th Street when the victim reported he was stabbed by a known individual during an altercation.
The victim followed the offender to the intersection of North 23rd and V Streets where he flagged two officers who were in the area. When one of the officers observed the suspect enter a nearby dwelling, they then secured the entry and rear of the building. The suspect refused to exit the building and S.W.A.T. was deployed.

After a two-and-a-half hour standoff, the suspect, identified as James M. Tyler Jr., 54, of the 1400 block of Bowen Street, exited the dwelling without incident. He is facing several assault charges. A booking photo is attached.

RPD Detectives Seek Information in Jackson Ward Shooting

Richmond Police detectives are seeking information about a shooting that occurred earlier this week in Jackson Ward.

Shortly before 10:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 10, police were called to the 900 block of 1st Street for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the victim lying on the street suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

A witness told police as he and the victim were walking on 1st Street, they were approached by four unknown suspects. It is believed a group of males were observed in the next block and it is believed someone from the group fired towards the victim, striking him. All four suspects then fled the scene toward Gilpin Court.

“We need the assistance of the community and anyone who may have witnessed something suspicious,” said Major Crimes Sgt. Claude Picard. “Any information will help bring us closer to getting these dangerous individuals off the street and bring closure to the victim and his family.”


The victim was transported to a local hospital where he is still suffering from life-threatening injuries. Police are still investigating the incident. No suspect information is available at this time.

Missing Man Sought

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing man, Shahiem L. Hicks, who has been missing since Nov. 30, 2016.

Hicks, 29, was last seen in a white Chrysler 300 with a black male in his 60s. He is known to frequent Jackson Ward, Gilpin Court, Mosby Court and Creighton Court.

He is described as a black male with a dark complexion, 5’6” tall, with brown eyes and black hair, and weighing approximately 164 pounds. He may currently have a low cut or bald hairstyle.

Walmsley Boulevard Homicide Victim Identified

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of last night’s homicide as Tyrone L. Feggins Jr., of the 200 block of Knights Manor Court, Henrico.

At approximately 7:22 p.m., officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of the 3400 block of Walmsley Boulevard. Officers located Feggins, who had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound, in an outdoor stairway of an apartment building on that block.

Feggins was pronounced dead on the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

BACKGROUND:    Mayor Levar M. Stoney, RPD Chief Alfred Durham and Richmond Commonwealth’s Attorney Michael Herring will report to the community on crime in the city in 2016.

They will present historical data as well as crime statistics for 2016. In addition, they will discuss several initiatives designed to target gun-related crimes, community engagement and improving public safety in violence-prone areas in the city.

[PHOTO] Victim Identified, Arrest Made in Greshamwood Place Homicide

A booking photo is now available for James D. Henshaw, 39, of the 12000 block of Sliding Rd., Church Road, Va., who was arrested yesterday in connection to Sunday’s homicide.

At approximately 10:48 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 8, police responded to the Motel 6 at 100 Greshamwood Place for a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found an unresponsive male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.
The victim, Deavon L. Jacobs, 25, of the 300 block of Melmark Court, was pronounced dead at the scene. A medical examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.
