Victim Identified, Information Sought in Barton Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the person found fatally shot this morning in the city’s north side as Charles J. Lewis, III, 53, of the 2800 block of Matterhorn Drive, Henrico.

At approximately 7:03 a.m., RPD officers and other emergency personnel were called to assist with what was believed to be an adult, black male with a medical emergency sitting in the driver’s seat of a vehicle stopped in an alley behind the 2400 block of Barton Avenue. While attempting to resuscitate Lewis, it was discovered he had been shot. A short time later, he was pronounced dead at the scene.


RPD detectives ask anyone who may have seen or heard anything unusual in that area between 5:00 a.m. and 7:00 a.m. or may have other information about this case to
