Arrest Made in Chamberlayne Parkway Robbery

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a man in connection with an armed robbery that took place yesterday afternoon on Chamberlayne Parkway.


Michael S. Bullock, 34, of the 5800 block of Ullswater Avenue, was arrested this morning and charged with abduction, armed robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. All three charges are felonies. A booking photo is attached.

The victim reported that around 1:15 p.m. yesterday he was walking in the 1300 block of Chamberlayne Parkway when he was approached by a man, who displayed a handgun and demanded money.  The suspect, who was later identified as Bullock, forced the victim to walk to an ATM at the corner of Grace and Belvidere streets to withdraw cash then left without further incident.

Suspect Sought in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives need the public’s assistance to locate a male who is suspected of being involved in a homicide that occurred last week.

Detectives are attempting to locate Bernardo L. Jones, 20, of the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. His photo is attached.

A few minutes after midnight on Sunday, August 21, officers were called to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found Desmond L. Holmes, 32, of the 7900 block of Tamarind Place, Henrico, down and unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment building.

Holmes had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Orcutt Lane Homicide Victim Identified


August 30, 2016

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of a homicide that occurred Sunday on Orcutt Lane as Antonio M. Grier, 37, of the 2500 block of Mandy Lane.

At approximately 9:27 p.m., officers responded to the 4800 block of Orcutt Lane for reports of shots fired. They arrived to find Grier, who had suffered from an apparent gunshot wound, down and unresponsive in a garden area on the block.

Grier was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Several witnesses reported seeing suspects flee the scene in a grey vehicle.

Bethel Street Homicide Victim Identified


August 28, 2016

The victim of a homicide that occurred Friday in Whitcomb Court has been identified as Joseph C. Johnson, 44, of the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street.

At approximately 11:51 p.m. on August 26, officers responded to the 2300 block of Bethel Street for reports of shots fired and persons shot. They arrived to find two adult victims, one male and one female, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Prior to the shooting, there was a party taking place in the area. A fight broke out at the party and gunshots were fired, striking the victims.

“We know a number of people were there Friday night just before the shooting, and our hope is that they come forward,” said Lt. Jason Hudson with the Major Crimes Division. “Assistance from the community – specifically the individuals who witnessed this incident – is what’s going to help us solve this homicide.”

Both victims were taken to a local hospital. The female victim was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Johnson succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.

Bethel Street Homicide

Gunshots rang out in Whitcomb Court just before midnight this morning, injuring two people. Shortly after the shooting, one of those victims died.

At approximately 11:51 p.m. last night, officers responded to the 2300 block of Bethel Street for reports of shots fired and persons shot. They arrived to find two adult victims, one male and one female, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Both victims were taken to a local hospital where the male victim later succumbed to his injuries. The female victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

A large group of people were present at the scene when officers arrived. Investigation revealed a party was happening in the area.

“An altercation took place between some of the people present then gunshots sounded and struck the victims,” said Lt. Jason Hudson with the Major Crimes Division. “We’re asking the community to help us identify anyone who may have been involved in this incident.”

Pedestrian Identified in Fatal Forest Hill Avenue Crash

A pedestrian struck in a fatal crash that occurred yesterday night in the 6900 block of Forest Hill Avenue has been identified.

At approximately 9:17 p.m., a 2002 Lexus ES3 traveling eastbound on Forest Hill Avenue near the intersection of Cherokee Road struck a pedestrian, who was crossing Forest Hill Avenue outside of the crosswalk. Cassandra D. Gordon, 43, of the 7800 block of Forest Hill Avenue, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene, where they took measurements and interviewed witnesses. No charges are expected against the driver.

Suspect, Vehicle Sought in Nine Mile Road Homicide

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a suspect and locate a vehicle sought in connection to a late-July homicide on Nine Mile Road.

At approximately 2:08 a.m. on July 30, officers responded to the Black Tie Social Club, located at 2825 Nine Mile Road, for a report of a shooting in the parking lot. They quickly located the victim – Michael A. Minor, 44, of the 4900 block of Goddin Circle – who was unconscious and not breathing. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the motive for the shooting was robbery.

“The suspect demanded the victim’s personal belongings then a physical altercation ensued,” said Major Crimes Detective Edward Aeschlimann. “During that fight, the victim was shot and killed.”

The suspect stole the victim’s belongings and fled on foot toward Nine Mile Road. He is described as a black male in his mid-30s, approximately 6” tall with a medium to heavyset or stocky build. He has a round face with a short hairstyle. He wore a white T-shirt with dark-colored jean shorts and Nike-style street or hiking boots. A sketch of the suspect is attached.

He was picked up by a white Chrysler 300 sedan, which fled eastbound on Nine Mile Road toward I-64. The vehicle was captured on a nearby surveillance camera. A surveillance photo and a stock image of the vehicle are attached.

Witnesses Sought in Belt Boulevard Shooting

Detectives investigating a recent shooting on Belt Boulevard are asking anyone who may have witnessed this incident or the events leading up to it to share that information with police. 

At approximately 12:18 a.m. on August 14, officers were called to the 200 block of Belt Boulevard for reports of shots fired and a person shot. They quickly located an adult female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Investigation revealed that a party was taking place nearby, and numerous people were walking back to their cars at the time the shooting took place. Surveillance video (sent separately) shows dozens of people running from the parking lot after the shooting.

Detectives believe the victim was an innocent bystander and not a targeted victim.

“You can see in the video just how many people were in the area when the shooting occurred,” said Major Crimes Detective James Baynes. “We’re urging anyone who saw anything that morning, even if they don’t think it’s relevant, to please come forward and tell us. The smallest clue could help us make an arrest.”

Prior to the shooting, a male and a female, who were both armed, were seen arguing in the parking lot.

The male suspect is described as a dark skinned black man in his late teens to early twenties, 5’8” – 5’10” tall, heavy set with dreads and no facial hair. He was last seen wearing a red shirt.

The female suspect is described as a light-skinned black woman in her late teens to early twenties, 5’3” – 5’5” tall with a skinny build and short hair. She wore a green shirt.

Four Fires Being Investigated as Arson

The Richmond Police Department and Richmond Fire Investigations Unit need are investigating four fires set along West Broad and West Grace streets in recent months.

Since April, fire investigators have responded to four suspicious fires in the 2700 blocks of West Broad and West Grace streets. All of those incidents are currently being investigated as arson.
Around 9:50 p.m. on April 3, a small fire was found inside of a vacant apartment in the 2700 block of West Grace Street. According to tenants, the building has a lot of foot traffic and investigators encourage anyone who recalls seeing anything suspicious that night to contact police.

Between 2 a.m. and 2:30 a.m. on July 14, a mattress in the rear of Chapman’s Certified Auto Repair, located at 2727 West Broad Street, was set on fire. As the mattress burned, the fire crept up the building and into the roof area. . Investigators believe the fire was set intentionally.
Two more fires were set on the mornings of August 23 and August 24. These two incidents are believed to be related at this time.

Around 5 a.m. on August 23, a vehicle was set on fire in the parking lot of Chapman’s Certified Auto Service, located at 2727 West Broad Street. The fire spread to four nearby vehicles.
Shortly before 6 a.m. the next day, a vehicle was set on fire at in the rear parking lot of an apartment building in the 2700 block of West Grace Street.

All four cases remain under investigation.

Three Arrested in Broad Street Shooting, Fourth Suspect Wanted

A fourth man is wanted on multiple charges in connection with a mid-July shooting that took place on West Broad Street.

Jerric D. Norris AKA “Double J” or “Little J”, 20, of Chesterfield, is wanted on charges of attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Norris is described as a black male, 5’11” tall, weighing about 230 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. He should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him is asked to call police immediately.

At approximately 2:42 a.m. on July 16, officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 1100 block of West Broad Street. They arrived to find an adult male lying in the street, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Virginia Commonwealth University Police provided vital assistance during the preliminary phase of investigation, including responding to the crime scene, interviewing witnesses and helping RPD detectives to identify three of the suspects.

Three arrests have already been made in the case.
On July 26, D-Vonn A. Reaux, 20, of the 3700 block of Lucky Lee Cres North in Chesterfield County, turned himself in at Richmond Police Headquarters. He also faces charges of attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

A few days later, Kiante M. Smith, 20, of the 7000 block of Meadowburn Drive in Chesterfield County, turned himself at Second Precinct. He is charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Montrell Graves, 22, of the 2600 block of Perdue Springs Drive in Chesterfield County, turned himself in at Police Headquarters on August 15. He is charged of attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Detectives have identified a fifth suspect in the case. The investigation is ongoing.

Arrest Made in Midlothian Inn Homicide

A Chesterfield County man is facing two felony charges in connection to a June homicide that occurred at a motel on the city’s south side.

Brian L. Marshall, 23, of the 5500 block of Hansdale Road in Chesterfield County, was arrested yesterday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached.

“Regardless of whether a case is days, months or years old, Richmond Police detectives tirelessly pursue every lead and work diligently to uncover new information until those responsible are brought to justice,” said Captain James Laino with the Major Crimes Division. “Someone who has committed a crime may think their trail has gone cold, but eventually the right tip or piece of evidence will lead to their arrest.”

At approximately 9:42 p.m. on June 3, officers were called to the Midlothian Inn, located at 6523 Midlothian Turnpike, for a report of random gunfire. They quickly located a room where a woman – Paige E. Johnson, 25, of the 6500 block of Midlothian Turnpike – had been shot. She was pronounced dead a short time later.

Man Arrested in West Broad Street Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a Chesterfield man in connection with the July homicide of Erik R. McCorkle, 24, of the 1800 block of Regal Drive in Henrico County.

Tavario E. Gates, 20, of the 12000 block of Oak Bluff Trail in Chester, was arrested yesterday and charged with conspiracy to commit murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and possession of a concealed weapon. All three charges are felonies. His booking photo is attached.

“An outpouring of assistance from the community helped us to identify key witnesses and move this case forward,” said Captain James Laino with the Major Crimes Division. “This arrest is proof of how valuable strong partnerships between the community and police are in solving crime.”

At approximately 2:44 a.m. on July 24, Richmond and Virginia Commonwealth University police officers responded to the 1300 block of West Broad Street for reports of random gunfire and persons shot. Upon arrival, they located three adult victims with gunshot wounds inside the common area of an apartment building. The victims were transported to a local hospital.

McCorkle succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The other two victims, one male and one female, are expected to recover from their injuries.

Detectives believe the shooting stemmed from an argument between two groups of people.

Even though the shooting occurred near the campus of Virginia Commonwealth University, RPD detectives do not believe the incident is connected with the university. None of the three victims are VCU students.

Victim Identified in North 30th Street Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified Habeeb A. Hafeed, 30, of the 1800 block of North 30th Street, as the victim of a homicide that occurred early this morning in the city’s east end.

Just after 12:30 a.m. today, Hafeed was outside of his business in the 1800 block of North 30th Street when the sound of gunfire was heard. Hafeed fell to the ground and was pronounced dead on scene of an apparent gunshot wound. The business was closed at the time of the incident.

Victim Identified in Snead Road Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred yesterday afternoon at Foxwood Apartments on the city's south side.

At approximately 4:12 p.m., officers were called to the 5000 block of Snead Road for a report of shots fired and a person down. They arrived to find Brian M. King, 24, of the 4000 block of Mallard Creek Circle in Chesterfield County, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound in a courtyard at the apartment complex. 

The victim was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. He later succumbed to his injuries.

Victim Identified in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim in Sunday morning’s homicide as Desmond L. Holmes, 32, of the 7900 block of Tamarind Place, Henrico.

Just after midnight on Sunday morning, officers were called to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found Holmes down and unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment building.

Holmes had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives are investigating this case as a homicide.

There are several apartment complexes in the immediate area and detectives are hopeful that additional people may have information related to this incident.

Just after midnight, officers were called to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for the report of a person down. Officers arrived and found a male down and unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment building.

The male had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives have opened a death investigation for this incident and are interviewing residents of the apartment buildings in the area for details about the circumstances of this shooting.

Suspect Sought in FasMart Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the man who is suspected of being involved in the robbery that took place on Friday, July 9 the FasMart store on Hull Street.

At approximately 2:25 p.m. on July 29, officers responded to the FasMart store, located at 5200 Hull Street, for a report of a robbery. The suspect entered the store and asked to use the restroom but was told it was not available. He then walked outside, smoked a cigarette, and reentered the store under the guise he was shopping.

Shortly after the last customer left the store, the suspect approached the counter for a carton of cigarettes. As the clerk retrieved the carton, the suspect told the clerk he had a gun in his bag and demanded money. The clerk gave him the money and the items the suspect brought to the counter. Prior to leaving the store, the suspect told the clerk to go in the back room and lock the door. The clerk complied and the suspect fled northbound on foot on Warwick Road.

The suspect is described as a black male who is approximately 23-28 years old, standing 5’7”- 5’9” tall, and weighing 150- 160 pounds. At the time of the robbery, he wore a white shirt, dark green or camouflage pants and black shoes. When the suspect initially walked into the store, he is seen with a tan fishing hat. Upon his second entry, he removes the hat but is seen again with the hat at the time of the incident.

Creighton Road Homicide

Last night at approximately 11:42 p.m., officers were called to 30th Street and Nine Mile Road for the report of a person down.

Officers arrived and found a male who was suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he died early this morning.

The victim has been identified as Benjamin T. Goode, 31, of the 500 block of East Beale Street.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives have opened a homicide investigation and believe the victim was shot while in the 1800 block of Creighton Road and ran toward the area of 30th Street and Nine Mile Road where he collapsed.

Woman Arrested in Theft of Lawn Tools

A Richmond woman wanted in connection with a recent break-in in Davee Gardens was arrested today and charged with two felonies.

Shavone M. Allen, 30, who is homeless, is charged with breaking and entering and grand larceny.
Around 10 a.m. on August 2, officers were called to the 3400 block of Mike Road for a report of a shed break-in. A short time earlier, a neighbor witnessed a black female carrying several lawn tools down the street. The female was later identified as Shavone Allen.

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate three individuals who’ve each been missing for several months.

“After months without word from their loved ones, the families of these individuals have genuine concern for their safety,” said Major Crimes Detective William Thompson. “We are working with our law enforcement partners in Virginia and out of state to bring these men home. We’re hoping someone may have seen them and can help us put their families’ minds at ease.”

Dean, 52, was last seen on December 18, 2015 leaving Richmond Community Hospital. Known to be a drifter, he frequents Rudd’s Trailer Park in the 2900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway and areas in Richmond’s east end.

He is described as a white male, 5’6” tall, with blue eyes and brown hair, weighing approximately 175 pounds. He has scars on his right cheek and a tattoo of the name “Brenda” on his right arm.

 


Eric L. Bambacus

Bambacus, 55, was last seen on February 10, 2016 in the 3200 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. He has been known to wander the city as well as Henrico and Chesterfield counties, staying in abandoned buildings.

He is described as a white male, 5’8” tall, with brown hair and brown eyes, weighing approximately 190 pounds.

 


Lander S. Freeman

Freeman, 73, was last seen on June 6, 2016 in the 1500 block of Silver Avenue after leaving his home to walk to Kings Market. His walking stick was found on the porch of a friend’s home in the 1400 block of Silver Avenue.

He is described as a black male, 6’1” tall, with a medium complexion, weighing approximately 200 pounds. He has an injury to one eye. He was last seen wearing a coat with fur around the hood and “Obama” written on the back, green pants and a black fedora-type hat.
 
 

Anyone who sees any of these men or has information on their whereabouts is asked to call 911 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word “ITip” followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
