Three Arrests Made in 4th Avenue Robbery

The Richmond Police Department has arrested three men in connection with a robbery that occurred early Monday morning in the northside neighborhood of Highland Park.

Martez D. Sweeden, 19, of the 2000 block of Idlewood Avenue, and Adaam I. Ali, 18, of the 3200 block of North Avenue, were taken into custody shortly after the incident. Sweeden is charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Ali is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.
The third suspect – Davonte S. Stovall, 20, of the 200 block of East Leigh Street – turned himself into authorities this morning. He is charged with conspiracy to commit robbery.  Booking photos of all three men are attached.

Around 12:30 a.m. on August 1, officers were called to the 1900 block of 4th Avenue in reference to a robbery. One of the three victims reported two male suspects attempted to rob his friends and him. A struggle between one of the victims and an armed suspect ensued and a shot was fired.
Less than 15 minutes later, a man suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the hand came into the emergency room at VCU Medical Center. Detectives from the Major Crimes Unit and Fourth Precinct responded to the scene and the hospital, interviewed individuals matching the robbery suspect descriptions and subsequently arrested Sweeden and Ali.
