Arrest Made in Coalter Street Homicide
The Richmond Police Department has made one arrest in connection with Sunday’s Coalter Street homicide.

Detectives arrested a 16-year-old male who lives in the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

The juvenile has been charged with aggravated malicious wounding, shooting into an occupied building, burglary while armed and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., Sunday, officers were called to the 1400 block of Coalter Street for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found Zyemontae Redd, 15, of the 4300 block of Hillbrook Avenue, Henrico, dead from an apparent gunshot wound. Two other males found in the area of Coalter and Redd streets were suffering from gunshot wounds that detectives believe occurred during the same incident. Their injuries are not life threatening.

Detectives received multiple tips from the community that aided the investigation and wish to thank citizens for their assistance. Detectives believe there may be more than one suspect in this case and ask the public to continue to provide information.

Burglary Suspect Sought

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to find a man wanted in connection to two gas station burglaries.

On Oct. 19 and Oct. 26, a male broke into the Exxon at 6101 Jahnke Road and stole beer and cigarettes.

Detectives have identified as Brandon C. Slaughter, 27, of the 800 block of Hockett Road in Manakin Sabot, as a suspect and have taken out three felony warrants for his arrest in connection to both burglaries. His photo is below.

Arrest Made in Westover Hills Boulevard Double Homicide/Shooting

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a man in connection with a double homicide that occurred last week.

Detectives identified Rashard S. Cutler, 21, of the 600 block of Woodhaven Drive, as a suspect and Second Precinct officers spotted him and arrested him late Monday night. He has been charged with conspiracy to commit murder in connection with the double homicides that occurred Oct. 19.

At approximately 2:27 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 19, officers received a call for a person shot in the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard. They arrived on scene within minutes and found three people who had been shot.

Elijah D. Gee, 24, of the 4800 block of Red Oak Lane, and Antonio M. Sherman, 18, of the 300 block of Payne Street in Lynchburg, died at the scene. A 19-year-old female was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, but is now in stable condition.

Detectives believe the shootings stemmed from an argument at a party, and are following up on several leads.

Suspect Sought in Attempted Robbery

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the photos who attempted a commercial robbery this month.

At approximately 6:25 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 12, an unknown male walked into the Rite Aid pharmacy located at 1801 Hull St. and attempted to rob the business. The suspect is described as a white male, late 40’s, wearing a white jacket, blue jeans, black shoes and a black knit cap.

The suspect claimed to have a firearm and threatened employees but never displayed a weapon and left without stealing anything. He fled on foot in the direction of Bainbridge Street. There were no injuries.

At approximately 2:15 p.m., Sunday, October 19, an unknown male walked into the yard of a home in the 600 block of North 28th Street and attempted to break into a shed. He was unsuccessful and walked away.

Victim Identified in Coalter Street Homicide
The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Sunday morning’s homicide on Coalter Street as Zyemontae Redd, 15, of the 4300 block of Hillbrook Avenue, Henrico.

At approximately 1:25 a.m., officers were called to the 1400 block of Coalter Street for the report of shots fired.

Officers arrived and found Redd and two other males in the area of Coalter and Redd streets suffering from gunshot wounds. The two wounded males were transported to VCU Medical Center with injuries that are not considered life threatening.

Detectives are following up on several leads.

Midlothian Turnpike Hotel Robbery Suspects Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify three males in the attached photos wanted in connection with a robbery that occurred in a Midlothian Turnpike hotel room earlier this month.

At approximately 4:30 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 8, three males entered a hotel room of the Richmond Inn at 6346 Midlothian Turnpike. The suspects displayed a handgun, struck the male victim in the head and robbed him of cash and the keys to his car. The suspects then stole the victim’s car.

All three black male suspects are of similar description: 18-25 years of age, six feet tall and approximately 160 pounds.

The first suspect wore a “Chevrolet” tee shirt, the second suspect wore a “Polo” zippered vest and the third suspect (covering his face in the photo) wore a plaid shirt.

BACKGROUND:           The city of Richmond will announce a partnership with Nextdoor (www.nextdoor.com), the private social network for neighborhoods, to improve citywide and neighbor-to-neighbor communications. The city’s use of the service will be launched with the Richmond Police Department.

This powerful tool is just another way the city will provide outreach to residents,” Mayor Dwight C. Jones said. “With the use of Nextdoor, we can send targeted safety messages and general updates to specific neighborhoods in an efficient, focused way.”

Nextdoor is free for residents and the city. Each neighborhood has its own private Nextdoor neighborhood website, accessible only to residents of that neighborhood.

Our sector lieutenants and other Department representatives will be able to communicate focused, hyper-local info directly to the neighborhoods or sections of the city they wish to target,” Chief Ray J. Tarasovic said. “Now we can share safety updates, neighborhood meeting reminders and even dates and times of our neighborhood walkthroughs right to your inbox.”

There will be a demonstration of how the service works at the event. Members of the media are encouraged to attend.

Midlothian Turnpike Barricaded Male Update

Richmond Police detectives have a charged a man with attempted capital murder of a police officer and attempted murder in connection with yesterday’s incident on Midlothian Turnpike.

At approximately 3:45 p.m. Sunday, officers were called to the Cloverleaf Inn Motel at 5456 Midlothian Turnpike for a report of a domestic incident. A female reported her boyfriend had shot at her.

As officers pulled up, the male then shot at one of the officers from inside the motel room. That’s when officers backed up and called for additional resources.

Midlothian Turnpike was shut down in both directions between German School and Covington roads for approximately three hours while they negotiated with the armed male inside a motel room.

He surrendered to officers at approximately 6:45 p.m.


He has been identified as Paris A. Loving-Johnson, 22, of the 4400 block of Pano Court in Chesterfield. Loving-Johnson has been charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer, attempted murder in the first degree as well as served with warrants for two counts of domestic assault and battery, failure to pay child support and felony destruction of property.



UPDATE Westover Hills Boulevard Double Homicide/Shooting

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victims of an early morning double homicide yesterday and are continuing their investigation.

At approximately 2:27 a.m. Sunday, officers received a call for a person shot in the 400 block of Westover Hills Boulevard. They arrived on scene within minutes and found three people who had been shot.

UPDATE Warwick Village Drive Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of last night’s homicide as Darius C. Artis, 24, of the 600 block of Warwick Village Drive.

At approximately 8:46 p.m. Sunday, officers received a call for a person shot inside a residence. They arrived within minutes and found Artis deceased inside his residence.

Detectives are currently looking for two armed suspects, described as follows:

Suspect one is described as a heavy-set black male with dark skin in his 20s or 30s, between 6’0” to 6’3” with a low cut haircut. He was last seen wearing a black faded hoodie, blue jeans and a red bandana in his pocket. He possibly goes by the name “Holiday”. 

Suspect two is described as a heavy-set black male with a stocky build and brown skin who was last seen wearing a black hoodie and black pants.

Richmond Police detectives are in the early stages of a homicide investigation on the city’s Southside this evening.

At approximately 8:46 p.m. today, officers received a call for a person shot inside a residence in the 600 block of Warwick Village Drive.

Officers arrived on scene within minutes and found an adult male in his mid 20s suffering from a gunshot wound. He died at the scene.

Broad Rock Road Homicide

Richmond Police detectives are in the early stages of a homicide investigation on the city’s Southside.

Officers received a call at approximately 7:50 p.m. yesterday for a report of a person shot in the 3600 block of East Broad Rock Road. They arrived within minutes and found an adult male suffering from life-threatening gunshot wounds. He was taken to the hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The victim has been identified as Tyfon A. Clark, 24, of the 4200 block of Vial Road.

Uppy’s Convenience Store Robbery Suspect Sought

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s assistance to help identify a suspect in the attached photos and video (sent separately) who robbed an Uppy’s convenience store this week.

At approximately 7 p.m. Monday, a man wearing a mask and wig entered the store at 2753 W. Broad St. and robbed the business at gunpoint.

There were no injuries.

The suspect is described as a white male, about 5 feet, 8 inches tall and approximately 200 pounds. The man wore a silver and gray wig and an old-man-type mask. He was last seen wearing grey trousers, a dark-colored shirt and sneakers.

Richmond Police detectives have arrested a man for the assaults and robbery Monday night on Hanover Avenue.

At approximately 4:30 p.m. yesterday, detectives from Third Precinct’s Focus Mission Team, with the assistance of Chesterfield Police, arrested the suspect without incident in Chesterfield County.

Allen A. Kelly, 46, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive, has been charged with robbery and malicious wounding. His photo is attached.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. on Monday, officers were called to the 3100 block of Hanover Avenue for a report of an assault. A man and a woman were walking on Hanover Avenue when they were assaulted with a blunt object and robbed.


“This is a great example of good police work and follow-up,” said Area 2 Major Michael Shamus. “We’d like to thank our media partners and the public for their help in identifying the suspect. We also would like to recognize the excellent coordination with local law enforcement agencies which allowed us to quickly arrest the suspect in this violent robbery.”

Convenience Store Burglary Suspects Sought

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to identify the men who broke into a convenience store last month.

At approximately 2:30 a.m. on Monday, September 29, two men broke through a door of the closed OMG Convenience Store at 3050 Nine Mile Road and stole boxes of cigarettes.

One of the suspects can be seen in the attached surveillance image and both can be seen on the surveillance video.

Support the Special Olympics by Driving Your Car around Richmond International Raceway This Sunday!

Have you ever sat in the stands at Richmond International Raceway or watched a NASCAR race on TV and wondered what it feels like to drive on the track?

Well, starting at noon this Sunday, Oct. 12, you can get the experience you’ve been looking for, with all of the benefits going to a couple of great causes!

For $20, participants 18 and older can drive their car or motorcycle for five laps on RIR’s unique ¾-mile track, as they follow the pace car and get a feel for the banks and turns. Pre-registrations are encouraged online at www.rir.com/specialolympics until 3 p.m. today. Drive-up registration begins at noon. There is no additional cost or age requirement for passengers.

All proceeds raised will go to RIR CARES, which benefits various local charities, and the Law Enforcement Torch Run to benefit Special Olympics. Officers from local agencies will be volunteering at the event.

“Bring the minivan or the Harley, and help us support our community,” said Capt. Harvey Powers, the Richmond Police Department’s coordinator of efforts to support the Special Olympics.

Roanoke Street Homicides

Richmond Police detectives have identified the four individuals found shot to death in a domestic-related incident last night on the Southside.

At approximately 8:21 p.m. Wednesday, officers received a call for shots fired at 100 E. Roanoke St. Officers arrived on scene within minutes and found Adreena D. Gary, 19, of the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike, shot outside the front door of the residence on the sidewalk. She died at the scene.

Inside the home, officers found Michelle S. Kelly, 22, and Keytrell Kelly, 2, both of the 1800 block of Southlawn Avenue; and Traymont B. Burton, 21, of the 100 block of East Roanoke Street. All three suffered gunshot wounds and died at the scene.

Burton and Michelle Kelly were ex-romantic partners and parents of Keytrell. Gray was a friend of Michelle Kelly.


Based on detectives’ investigation, they have determined that Burton shot all three individuals before turning the gun on himself.

Hanover Assault Suspect Sought

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify a man who used a hammer-like object to assault and rob two people Monday night.

The suspect and the suspect vehicle can be seen in the attached surveillance images.

At approximately 10:50 p.m. Monday, an unknown male approached a man and woman who were walking in the 3100 block of Hanover Avenue and assaulted both victims. He then took the woman’s purse and fled east on Hanover Avenue on foot.

The woman was transported to VCU Medical Center for treatment of her injuries. The injuries were serious but not considered life threatening.

The suspect was wearing a white tee shirt and a white ball cap. Detectives believe he left the area in a dark-colored four-door Chevy that they believe is a newer model.

Chat Website Robbery Suspects Sought
Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the men who robbed a victim after luring him to a meeting last month.

They can be seen in the attached surveillance image.

At approximately 12:40 p.m., Tuesday, September 23, a male victim arrived at a location in the 1400 block of Oakhurst Lane for a planned meeting with a female that he had made contact with on a chat website. As the victim waited for the meeting, the two males approached and robbed him of cash, clothing and his car.

Detectives believe the two suspects conspired to lure and rob him.

The first suspect is a black male, 30-35 years of age, 5’ 8” tall, weighing 200 pounds. He has a small facial hair goatee.

The second suspect is a black male, 30-35 years of age, 5’ 6” tall, weighing 200 pounds. He has a full facial hair goatee.

The Richmond Police Department is asking the public’s assistance to help locate a missing man.
George D. Campbell, 69, missing from the 100 block of East Belt Boulevard, is a white male, 5’8” tall and 150 pounds. He has blue eyes and gray hair. His photo is attached.

Campbell is suffering from a medical condition.

Suspects Sought in Motor Vehicle Theft

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify and find the men in these surveillance photos who stole a motor vehicle this week.

Between 7:20 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 29, the men stole a truck that was located in the 1600 block of Summit Avenue.

The men, both white males, stole a 1996 Ford F-350 that is white in color. The truck has a camper cab on the back.
