Arrest Made in Decatur Street Crash

February 21, 2019

The Richmond Police Department has arrested
Harvey Williams, 20, of the 1200 block of Nelson Street on charges related to a crash on Decatur Street yesterday morning.

At approximately 12:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, officers initiated a traffic stop at E 30th Street and Burfoot Street in reference to a stolen vehicle out of the city.  After the officers activated their emergency equipment, the suspect vehicle failed to stop.

A short distance later, the suspect vehicle disregarded a stop sign at Decatur Street and East Broad Rock Road and was struck by another vehicle.  The collision caused the suspect vehicle to flip off the road and hit the front porch of a home in the 3100 block of Decatur Street.

All four occupants of the suspect vehicle were taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.  The three passengers were juveniles and one of them originally suffered life-threatening injuries.  The status of those injuries has since changed to non-life threatening.

Williams, the driver, was also taken to a local hospital for medical treatment.  Officers found narcotics on his person.  Williams was charged with Possession of Crack with Intent, three counts of Felony Child Endangerment, Possession of Marijuana, and Felony Eluding.  Additional charges are pending, including charges for the motor vehicle theft.

The investigation is ongoing.
