Two Charged in Homicide of 5-Month-Old in August

Richmond Police detectives have charged two adults in connection to the homicide of a 5-month-old male which occurred last August.

On Tuesday, following a lengthy investigation, detectives arrested the parents of the child without incident. Jamel Bryant, 32, of Richmond, and Heather Hohensee, 27, of Richmond, have both been charged with murder and child abuse. Their booking photos are attached.

On Friday, August 2, 2024, officers were called to the 1000 block of German School Road for the report of an unresponsive child. Officers arrived and found the unresponsive child in the apartment. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim in the homicide that occurred yesterday on St. James Street.

At approximately 5:05 p.m., officers were called to the 1000 block of St. James Street for the report of shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Toney Garrett, 23, of Richmond, down and unresponsive on the grass between buildings. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Arrest Made in Richmond Highway Homicide

 

Following indictments obtained by a grand jury, the suspect in the homicide that occurred in the 3600 block of Richmond Highway in December has now been charged for that incident.

 

Walter Coleman, 58, of Henrico, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in relation to this homicide. Coleman turned himself in to local authorities on January 22. His booking photo is currently unavailable.

 

At approximately 1:21 p.m., Saturday, December 14, officers were called to the 3600 block of Richmond Highway for the report of a robbery that was upgraded to a shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Wesley Jefferson, 37, of Richmond, down on the ground with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

 Suspect Sought for Multiple Thefts of Lottery Tickets

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the male in the attached photos who is a suspect in multiple larcenies of lottery tickets at locations throughout the city. 

Last month, employees at local convenience stores began reporting this male had entered their businesses and requested several scratch-off lottery tickets. When the clerk placed the lottery tickets on the counter, the suspect would ask the clerk for another item. While the employee was distracted, the suspect would grab the lottery tickets from the counter and run from the store. 

The suspect wore a distinctive light-colored hoodie with a photo of a young boy on the front and back. 

Below is a list of locations that have reported thefts from this suspect:

·         December 21, 2024 - 1100 block of West Main Street

Following an indictment by a grand jury on Wednesday, January 15, the suspect in the homicide that occurred in the 100 block of Wythemar Street in December has now been charged for that incident. 

Javontae Walton, 30, of Richmond, has been charged with murder. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 12:06 p.m., Monday, December 23, officers were called to the 100 block of Wythemar Street for the report of a person stabbed. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Sean Scott, 26, of Richmond down and injured with apparent stab wounds. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Victim Identified in Clarkson Road Homicide Investigation, Aggravated Assault x2

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of the homicide on Clarkson Road last week as Dashawn Khan, 22, of Richmond.

At approximately 9:29 p.m., Wednesday, December 25, officers were called to the 1400 block of Clarkson Road for the report of random gunfire. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Khan, in the stairwell of an apartment building, down and unresponsive. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Another adult male who had suffered an apparent gunshot wound was at the scene when officers arrived. His injury was not considered life threatening and he refused treatment. A third adult male victim was transported by personal vehicle to a local hospital. His injury was also not considered life threatening.
