Update: Missing Woman, Last Seen on Bridge, Located

 

The Richmond Police Department has received confirmation from the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner and Chesterfield County Police Department that the remains of a woman recovered from the James River on March 24, 2025, have been positively identified as Mareesa Jones, 59, of Henrico.

 

Jones was previously reported missing after her vehicle was found abandoned on the Lee Bridge on the evening of Saturday, February 8. A witness reported seeing a woman matching Jones’ description standing near the railing shortly before 8:18 p.m.

 

Since that time, the Richmond Police Department, Richmond Fire Department’s Water Rescue Team, and the Metro Aviation Unit have conducted extensive search efforts in and around the James River.

 

Detectives do not suspect foul play. The investigation remains ongoing, and no further information is available for release.
