Indictment in St. Peter Street Homicide Investigation

Following an indictment by a grand jury last week, the suspect in the homicide that occurred on St. Peter Street in July has been charged.

Fourth Precinct officers arrested the suspect four days following the incident. RPD detectives, through coordination with the Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney, presented evidence to a grand jury last week.

Nathaniel Walters, 29, of Chesterfield County, has been charged with first degree murder. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 9:48 p.m., Thursday, July 16, officers were called to the 1300 block of St. Peter Street for the report of a person stabbed. Upon arrival, officers located an adult male, James West, 63, of Richmond, down and unresponsive. He had suffered apparent stab wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
