Crash Investigation at GRTC Downtown Transfer Station

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a crash that occurred this morning at the GRTC Downtown Transfer Station.

At approximately 10:07 a.m., officers were called to the transfer station, located in the 800 block of East Clay Street, for the report of a crash. Officers arrived and found a bus had turned onto a median and collided into a bus shelter at the station and then hit another bus on the far side of the median.

Injured persons, all adults, include four on the first bus, including the operator, two on the second bus and four individuals waiting at the bus bay near the bus shelter. The injuries were not considered life threatening. The operator of the second bus was not injured.

GRTC has closed the transfer station temporarily for removal of debris. A temporary transfer area is located on North 9th Street between Marshall and Leigh streets.

Fourth Precinct officers and detectives are investigating.
