Indictment in Southwood Parkway Homicide Investigation

Following an indictment by a grand jury last week, the suspect in the homicide that occurred on Southwood Parkway earlier this month has been charged.

RPD detectives investigated and were assisted by the U.S. Marshal’s Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. Flock automatic license plate readers were used, in part, to locate the suspect in this violent crime.

Eygner Huezo Moran, 19, of Chesterfield County, has been charged with murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a murder. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 1:44 a.m., Wednesday, August 5, RPD officers were called to the 1100 block of Southwood Parkway for the report of a shooting. Officers arrived and found an adult male, Juan Ortiz-Toj, 34, of Richmond, down and unresponsive in front of a business. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Anyone with additional information about this homicide is asked to call Major Crimes Detective A. Sleem at (804) 814-7123 or Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. The P3 Tips Crime Stoppers app for smartphones also may be used. All Crime Stoppers reporting methods are anonymous.
