Redd Street Homicide and Arrest

A man shot during a robbery Friday night on Redd Street has died of his injuries.

Gary S. Green, 41, of Henrico, died this morning. He and another man were robbed at gunpoint by two unknown males at approximately 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 28, in the 1900 block of Redd Street. During the crime, one of the robbers shot Green.

The U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force arrested Russell L. Johnson, 28, of the 600 block of Hancock Street, late Saturday evening and charged him with conspiracy to commit robbery, conspiracy to commit malicious wounding and use of a firearm during the commission of a robbery.

Berrywood Road Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred Friday.

Shortly before 10 p.m., officers responded to a domestic disturbance at a residence at 5720 Berrywood Road. There they found Robin A. Mitchell, 42, of the same address, dead of a gunshot wound.

A male companion of Ms. Mitchell’s, who was present when the shooting occurred, was questioned by detectives.

Forensics technicians processed the scene.

Detectives will review the evidence and the statements made by the male companion with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office to determine if any charges will be filed.

Police Investigating Robbery-Assault on Video

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help identifying and locating the persons responsible for a robbery/assault in Shockoe Bottom.

The incident occurred around 1 a.m. Friday, Jan. 21, in the 1700 block of East Cary Street.

A video on YouTube – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDbuke4dSzE – shows a male being attacked by several other males. The victim’s wallet was taken during the struggle.

4th Quarter Awards Ceremony

The flames were fierce and the smoke was choking, but Fourth Precinct Sgt. David Naoroz ran into a burning home twice on Nov. 18 to help save an elderly woman from a late-night fire.

For his heroic actions, he was awarded the Richmond Police Department’s highest honor -- the Medal of Honor – during the Department’s quarterly awards ceremony on Jan. 24.

Sgt. Jean-Guy LeGouffe and Officer Jill Simons also received the Life Saving Award for their role in those rescue efforts.

Chief Bryan T. Norwood recognized the Precinct of the Year: Second Precinct; Sector of the Year: Sector 212; and Rookie of the Year: First Precinct's Officer Mary Gary for their contributions to reducing crime, building partnerships and improving relationships within the community.

“It’s these partnerships – that aspect of bringing the community into community policing – that’s making a difference in our city,” Chief Norwood said. “We want to recognize and thank these partners and also our officers on the streets every day who work to go above and beyond their required duties and give their best back to the residents of Richmond.”

Arrest Made in Hillside Shootings

Richmond Police have arrested a man wanted in connection with two shootings—one fatal—in Hillside Court this week.

Deandre Rayseem Yellardy, 19, the 1600 block of Glenfield Avenue, surrendered to police early this morning. He was wanted for attempted murder in connection with the incident, which occurred in the 1400 block of Harwood Street just after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Arrest Made in Southlawn Avenue Homicides

Richmond Police investigators have arrested and charged Ivan A. “Slap” Smith in connection with a pair of New Year’s Day homicides in the city.

Smith, 29, of the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike, was arrested yesterday and charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit murder.

Investigators were called to the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue just after 4:30 a.m. on Jan. 1 for a report of shots fired. When they arrived they found Alex R. Arrington Jr., 25, shot to death outside and Coraliss A. Logan, 25, shot to death inside a vehicle a block away.

Investigators worked around the clock on this case and credit tips from the community for helping to make the arrest.

Do You Know Where This Suspect Is?

Richmond Police need the public’s help to find Deandre Rayseem Yellardy in connection with the Tuesday night shootings in Hillside Court.

Yellardy, 19, is wanted for attempted murder in connection with the incident, which occurred in the 1400 block of Harwood Street just after 7 p.m. Tuesday.

His last known address is the 1600 block of Glenfield Avenue. Yellardy, who also goes by “Petey” and “Peedy,” is weighs approximately 150 pounds, is 5’8” feet tall and has tattoos on both arms.

Harwood Street Homicide

Just after 7 p.m. last night, Richmond Police responded for a report of gunfire in the 1800 block of Southlawn Avenue.

When officers arrived, they found one female suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. A short distance away in the 1400 block of Harwood Street, officers found Regina N. Doctor, 29, of the 1400 block of Harwood Street, who had been shot to death.

Investigators Make Quick Arrest in Overnight Homicide

In less than 24 hours, Richmond Police investigators have arrested a woman in connection with the homicide last night on 4^th Avenue.

Shanequa L. Chavis, 21, has been charged with the murder of her boyfriend, Eric D. Darby, 23, at the home they shared in the 2600 block of 4th Avenue. Investigators believe an argument was the motive.

Officers were initially called to the couple’s home at approximately 11:53 p.m. Wednesday when they received a call about a person shot. When they arrived, they found Darby shot to death on the ground in front of the residence.

4th Avenue Homicide Investigation

The Richmond Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred last night on 4^th Avenue.

At approximately 11:53 p.m. Wednesday, officers received a call about a person shot in the 2600 block of 4^th Avenue. When they arrived, they found a black male in his mid-20s who had been shot to death.

Investigators do not believe this was a random incident.

Person of Interest Sought in September Shooting

The Richmond Police Department needs the public’s help to identify and locate a person of interest in a shooting that occurred on Sept. 6, 2010.

The man detectives are looking for is only identified by the alias “BG.” The photo of “BG” that accompanies this advisory is from surveillance footage at the Market Place store, 101 E. Brookland Park Blvd. He was at the store moments before the shooting.

Shortly after 9 p.m. Monday, Sept. 6, several shots were fired at the intersection of Barton Avenue and Brookland Park Boulevard. One person leaving the Market Place was struck by the gunfire. His injuries were not life threatening.

“BG” is known to frequent the Fairfield neighborhood and drives a bluish-gray Dodge Charger with a gold racing stripe.

Maury Street Shooting This Morning

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a shooting that occurred earlier today in the 3400 block of Maury Street.

Officers responding to a call of a person shot around 10:29 a.m. found a male with gunshot wounds in a parking lot. He was taken to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Richmond Police Major Crimes detectives are canvassing the neighborhood and working to identify the shooter in this incident. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.

Phaup Street Shooter Arrested

Thanks to media pressure, a man wanted in connection to a recent shooting surrendered to Richmond Police investigators today.

Andre Lee Seward, 35, has been charged with aggravated assault and using a firearm during the commission of a felony. He was wanted in connection with the Dec. 5 shooting in the 2100 block of Phaup Street. The shooting victim was injured when he responded to a knock at his door and the gunman forced his way inside the apartment. The victim’s injuries were not life threatening.

Seward surrendered to investigators at approximately 2 a.m. today and told investigators he did so because of the media pressure.

Southlawn Avenue Victims Identified

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victims in this morning’s fatal shootings in the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue.

The male victim has been identified as Alex R. Arrington Jr., 25, of the 1200 block of West Leigh Street. The female victim has been identified as Coraliss A. Logan, 25, of the 1000 block of St. Peter Street.

Both victims were involved in the shooting incident that occurred around 4:35 a.m. in the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue.

The investigation is ongoing.

Southlawn Avenue Homicides

At approximately 4:35 a.m. the Richmond Police Department responded to a call of shots fired in the 1700 block of Southlawn Avenue.

On that street officers found a black male unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound. One block away officers found a black female in a vehicle also unresponsive from an apparent gunshot wound.

They were pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause of death.

Detectives are interviewing those in the area who may have some information about this incident. Anyone with information about these shootings is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
