The Richmond Police Crash Team has identified the pedestrian in Saturday’s fatal collision on South Belvidere Street as William Ashlock, 61, of Richmond.
At approximately 8:50 p.m., officers were called to the intersection of South Belvidere and Holly streets for the report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian. Officers arrived and found the adult male pedestrian, Ashlock, down and unresponsive in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Both directions of South Belvidere Street and the span over the James River were closed for the investigation.
The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
Investigators with the RPD Crash Team responded to the scene. It has been determined that Ashlock was crossing South Belvidere Street from west to east at the intersection of Holly Street when a southbound vehicle struck him while Ashlock was in the left travel lane.
The driver of the striking vehicle, an adult male, remained on the scene. At this time, no charges have been filed.
