Juvenile Charged in Assaults and Robberies Recorded on Video
Richmond Police detectives have charged a juvenile male, 17, of Richmond, for a recent incident of assaults and robberies that were recorded on video.
Last month, disturbing video was circulated on social media showing juvenile males threatening other young males with a firearm and emotionally assaulting them. This incident was not reported to RPD but, once the department was made aware of the incident, First Precinct detectives investigated with assistance of the Strategic Violence Interdiction Unit (SVIU).
The juvenile has been charged with robbery x2, abduction x2, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony x4 and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
“The behavior seen was deeply shocking and disturbing,” said Interim Chief Rick Edwards. “I thank First Precinct detectives and the SVIU team for quickly identifying and charging this suspect. While that is important, providing support is also critical. When we first viewed the video we promised to offer resources and assistance to the young men and their families – and we have offered support throughout this process.”
The investigation continues.
