Arrest Made in High School Parking Lot Shooting Within 48 Hours

Richmond Police detectives, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, have made an arrest in the shooting at 4314 Crutchfield Street.

David Gutierrez, 18, of Richmond, was arrested without incident today and has been charged with attempted murder x2 and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony x2.

Thursday, at approximately 12:02 p.m., officers were called to George Wythe High School, located at 4314 Crutchfield Street, for the report of shots fired. Officers arrived and found a juvenile male in the woods off the campus of the school. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital with an injury that was considered life threatening.

Officers then received a report of another juvenile male who had been transported by personal vehicle to a local hospital with an apparent gunshot wound. The injury was not considered life threatening. This is an ongoing investigation.

Detectives will continue to investigate this incident.

Victim Identified in Midlothian Turnpike Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a shooting last night on Midlothian Turnpike as Marcus Dobson, 40, of Richmond.

At approximately 9:08 p.m., officers were called to an apartment complex in the 4000 block of Midlothian Turnpike for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Dobson, down and unresponsive in the grass area near a parking lot, suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where last night he succumbed to his injury.

 The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

RPD Pop-Up Series Continues – Elkhardt Neighborhood

WHAT:              The Richmond Police Department continues the popular Community Pop-Ups with an early evening event in the Elkhardt neighborhood. In collaboration with city agencies, non-profit organizations and federal law enforcement partners, the Pop-Ups bring fun activities and multiple tables of agency information to a neighborhood to engage with the public and to connect residents to resources.

 This event will take place at the Residences at Brookside, an apartment complex at Elkhardt and Whitehead roads.

Today’s RPD Community Pop-Up event is a continuation of the 2023 series that will occur monthly in neighborhoods throughout the city.

 BACKGROUND:

Impacting public safety through community engagement is one of the Richmond Police Department’s five core values and the series of Community Pop-Ups play an integral role in achieving this goal. RPD has collaborated with various community stakeholders in this series in an attempt to provide access to resources and to engage with the public on their issues of concern. As motor vehicle thefts have slightly increased in the area, Second Precinct Lieutenant Jeremy Sayles will be providing theft prevention tips to the community.

Arrest Made and Victim Identified in Halifax Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a shooting on Halifax Avenue today as Kwanasia Clark, 25, of Richmond.

Destiny Conway, 23, of Richmond, was charged with Malicious Wounding x2 and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony x2. Additional charges are pending. Her booking photo is attached.

This morning at approximately 2:19 a.m., Richmond Police officers responded to the 2200 block of Halifax Avenue after hearing gunfire in the area.  They located three adult females with gunshot wounds.  Two of the three sustained non-life threatening injuries and one was pronounced dead on scene. One woman was transported to a local hospital and the other refused treatment. 

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a shooting this morning on R Street as Curtis Kitchen, 53, of Richmond.

At approximately 12:13 a.m., officers were called to the 1800 block of R Street for the report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, Kitchen, down and unresponsive on the roadway. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives believe the shooting may have occurred a few minutes earlier, closer to midnight.

Victim, Shooter Identified in Possible Homicide, Suicide on Decatur Street

Yesterday at approximately 4:40 p.m., officers were called to the 3200 block of Decatur Street for the report of two persons down in a residence. Officers arrived and located an adult female and an adult male down and unresponsive in the home. They had both suffered apparent gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives have identified the female victim as Charneice Williams, 36, of Richmond. Her husband, Corwin Hunter, 40, of Richmond, was also identified.

At this time, detectives are working on the determination Hunter shot Williams before shooting himself.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of deaths.

Collision on Lee Bridge Results in Fatality

The Richmond Police Department Crash Team is investigating a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred Tuesday on the Lee Bridge.

Tuesday at approximately 2:55 p.m., officers were called to the Lee Bridge for the report of two vehicles colliding in the northbound lanes of the bridge. An SUV collided into the rear of a disabled SUV on the bridge.

Individuals from both vehicles, four adults and a child, were injured and transported to a local hospital for treatment. An adult male from the vehicle that was struck, Ellis Green, Jr., 61, of Richmond, succumbed to his injury at the hospital later that day.

The RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and is investigating.
